i have been trying to replace my uploaded avatar in my profile with another one but this hasn't worked out. any advice?

yes sometimes you have too delete the old aviator go and log out log in then upload a new one

What katheryn said.
 Sometimes the avatar gets "stuck" and you need to log-out and then log-in again. If that doesn't work, there's an option in your profile to "expire cookies" which should work. If that doesn't, you may need to do it for your entire web browser.

I often forget to "chose" the option/radio button so I'll have my location all in there but it's useless if you haven't told the software what you want to do

Plus ... to the above.. you have to be trying to load it in the correct "spot" ... on that page. I get confused sometimes myself when I have the image but really have to give the url to use it or... not that space on others.
 I never get it correct the first time! Also, remember to go to the bottom of the page and SUBMIT your changes.
