I work for HP Presales in the US and I get this question quite alot, actually.

That model is a Pre-merger notebook, so you can call 1-800-okcompaq and see if there is availability for ordering the disks.

The other option is to go to:
http://welcome.hp.com/gms/uk/en/sz6/contact_us.html

Here you have options such as "Chat with an online support tech" or "Technical support after you buy". These are both free options. If your friend calls tech support, make sure they say "Software" when prompted. It should be an option right after the IVR asks you if you are calling about Technical support.

Let me know if none of these options work. I will check my resources at work and see what other options may be available for your friend.
