My applet initializes, then is started.

Then connection to psychcentral.com begins.

After a while I receive the following message:

"Could not connect to psychcentral.com:8080

Possible reasons:
- Chat server system at psychcentral.com is temporarily unavailable

- Your PC is behind a firewall or proxy server - please ensure your PC permits outgoing TCP connections to PS on port 8080."

I suspect the latter is my reason. I post from work. Any suggestions?

i have to disable my firewall while i'm in chat it might be what you have to do as well. i know that there's a way to allow certain things with a firewall, but i don't know how to do it, so i just disable the entire thing.

Most firewalls allow outgoing connections on any port, but some are sometimes configured to only allow specific connections on specific ports. That's like the case in this instance, meaning you can't chat while at work and behind the workplace's firewall. Sorry.
