Seems like one issue may get a little better then another issue knocks you down. Like waves in the ocean. You try to walk out of the water with cinder blocks on your feet, and the waves keep catching you knocking you down and pulling you out. Does anyone know anyone who has made a recovery from this? Am I wasting my time trying to get better?

I don't know as much as I "should" about this, as I almost certainly have it, but there are some good books out about it, one in particular. You definitely are NOT wasting your time trying to get better

Sorry you find yourself having some setbacks. That can happen, some gains and then some setbacks, it's going to take time and patience.

It's good you have made some gains Trace.

Medications, counseling though now it's through the VA which means you appts. are two or three months apart. No wonder Vet suicides are 20 some a day.

Hello OE, I was wondering if you were still around here. Just want to be better and I have done everything they have said and it's not better at all. Just frustrated and under a lot of pressure with current events in the USA.

Yes, started a DBT class last week, though don't remember much about it. Started dissociating close to the beginning with the loud people, bright lights, and talking about memories. Have another one Monday.

Well, all the unrest that has been taking place can get depressing/stressful for anyone. It's easy to get caught up in it because it tends to be in our faces so much. Try to distance yourself from it so you don't get so overwhelmed by it.
Creating distance from, can happen when finding something one CAN have control over, even if it's something small, a small project of somekind.

I've found these three books helpful, but it is an excruciatingly slow process!

CPTSD snowballs CPTSD snowballs CPTSD snowballs

My current therapist gave me the middle one as a gift and we're working through it together ... I've found it most insightful as the author also struggles with C-PTSD ... He also has a website if you'd like to explore it ... Pete Walker, M.A. Psychotherapy ...

I hope you're able to hang in there ...

Sincerely,
Pfrog!

It's scary that there are so many violent people out there wanting to kill innocent people just for wearing a uniform. This will get worse.

Trace, there are violent people in the world. We have so much more exposure to it with all the media coverage we have now.

Individuals who are involved in law enforcement have dangerous jobs. Some officers work in very high areas. I don't know how they do it. And police officers often see things that are very traumatic.

That doesn't sound like a healthy group.

There were other triggering factors also. Have another one tomorrow, hope it will be better. Plan to wear sunglasses and sit near the door.

A DBT group should have soft light. Can you ask to turn it down?

I doubt it. It's such a small room. It gets so hot in there with so many people also. You have been in a group before? I haven't, so I really don't know what to expect. Hoping some of the others will not show up today and make it a smaller group. Maybe I will be a little more relaxed since I know kind of what will happen. Depends on what they talk about.

Today's meeting went a little better, still shut down mentally, so I don't remember much of what we talked about. She gave out a handout so I will look that over and see what was discussed. Did wear the sunglasses and that helped with the lights but still it's a very uncomfortable setting for me.
