Is there anyone here that does not have a animal/pet? I saw a conversation about why people with PTSD/CPTSD love animals so much , or feel more comfortable around them. Some say it because they are no threat, some say for the unconditional love. What say you?

I can relate to that statement ☺ my dog was severely abused in her first 18months, she even lost an eye. I've had her for 4 years now and she is the sweetest companion. The love is unconditional but to heal another being is therapeutic for both human and pet. I have a small zoo and they all help keep me busy and present. That's important with my ptsd.

Food for thought though... I can't ever see myself without a pet and I was so desperate for my very own as soon as I left home. Probably related to my M.I

That love from a pet is healing. It will let you love it and then love you back.

Mine are also grounding. The presence of the dogs gives me a sense of safety. The snakes are physically grounding (some are good at deep pressure massage).
I find animals more predictable than humans, even when they have ulterior motives (they can be quite cunning when they want something)... people can be more deliberately hurtful also. Generally, the animals we chose to live with us don't do things to be able to watch us squirm (ok, maybe the cats with the live gifts, and the knocking down of stuff... and maybe the little dog when he gets mad and pees on the couch right where I like to sit)... but in general, animals are less deliberately, harmfully manipulative than a lot of people.

Totally agree except with the snakes I know people love them, but .....I couldn't. Have to pass on a toad also. You never know which way they are going to jump. I love it when people bring the dogs to the hospital to see the kids there. They just light up and get so excited, the kids and the dogs

I have two cats. They're both friendly to me. I feel better when they are around. Usually, though, they're begging for food.

I can love my pets freely, without shame or fear. I've never felt that way toward another human being.

I have 18 month old Larry who is a chocolate lab and just today we picked up 8 week old Roxy who is a golden retriever and will grow into my service dog. They are part of my family and Larry has always been able to ground me and soon Roxy will too. xoxo

I have a big, fugly dog. For me, dogs have always been the only source of intimacy I've been able to have. And trust.
