Today I got triggered during a GYN exam, for several reasons, but it's the first time also. One thing is that I was expecting a female and male did it, a resident I think. Worst exam ever.

I used to get triggered by them all the time. I had the same gyn since I was 16... he just retired. So the next time I have to go in, it's going to be a new doc. This one is female, but for me, the main thing is I don't know her, and I'm gonna have to go thru the whole explaining dissociation again and getting used to a new doc again.

I think for me, knowing what is happening iss most important. Having a doc I'm not expecting all off a sudden would throw me off too. I also need at least a week to prepare for the appointment usually, so having things change is hard.

Exactly, when I had insurance I had the same female doctor 30 years. Then I had to go to the VA and have gyn stuff done by primary care provider, she found something so I had to go somewhere else, supposedly with this nice female doctor and here comes this dude in. I didn't know any of the people in that room.
Now I have to deal with untriggering.

Trace, if you get triggered and need a female doctor you need to call and let them know. You can explain you struggle with PTSD and prefer having a female doctor.

I had an appointment with a female doctor. He walked and took my history, then all three walked in the room and he started. I guess I froze. Not knowing any of these people, hoping it would be over quick, but it was the most painful exam I've ever had. I voiced that, and adjustments were made but it was too late then.
