After reading another post where a poster felt like a freak, it got me thinking.

PTSD and CPTSD are a disabilty and yet some, most or all feel like a freak.

SO does disability = Freak?

I don't believe it should, but I know I've felt it.

No it doesn't.

I know I've felt that way for sure. I don't think it does though, not at all. For me, I just wanted to know that I was still worth something. Working or not doesn't define me. I appreciate now that I have disability and can have time to recover.

I don't believe a word of it. We feel like a freak only because we are treated like that.

I am a freak too and although I am not proud of it, I feel the psychosomatic pain of being an inbred person. Now, I wanted to help people and all, but those same people I'd give my life for wanted to take away my life just because I am crazy. A lot of teachers told me I am worthless because of my memory problems.

Those teachers are worthless. I'm sure there's a lot of good to you beyond your lack of memorization. I failed tests requiring it until I learned to cheat in school. I still don't have even my basic times tables memorized but can figure it out

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I want to be a pharmaceutical scientist and that's why I am studying hard for chemistry, which is very mathematical and I did not study maths after high school, so integration/derivation and fancy terms like differentiation calculus are very hard for me to ponder through. But the good news is my college professors are ready to help me. They tell me it's not my fault I forget everything, it's that the subject is volatile. I just hope it's the truth.

I have very bad memory problems too. You are not worthless or a freak just a person making the best of life under challenging circumstances.

It is frustrating that people misinterpret what you have said or not said without taking full account of how difficult communication can be when you have cognitive challenges.

It is also frustrating when we cannot fulfill our full potential. Wanting to fulfill it shows you are an amazing person.

Yeah, I am glad I have mostly supportive people around me who I have less contact with. My college professors (especially the geology and chemistry department) are very supportive to me, as are my doctors and my maternal relatives. But what's even more amazing is that I am somewhat normal even after going through so much on-going torment.

I don't know. I find more "normal" people to be freakier than I am. I mean, I don't cut right in front of somebody in traffic and make them slam their brakes. I sure don't get so drunk to stumble, wet my pants or puke in the parking lot.

Disturbed relationships, like isolation, social anxiety and feeling different than others, are common symptoms found in people with C-PTSD. I think the term “freak” might not be something that others think about us, but it is something that we think about ourselves. We are the ones who feel like aliens due to our trauma.

Not a FREAK, just different! I used to joke in college at UK that I was not a Greek, but a freak when people asked about sororities. That was decades ago. I believe stigma and ignorance are why people choose labels such as freak, crazy, and nuts for that which they are unable to understand. Just my opinion.

Of course. People do not know the first thing about mental illness yet they act like they know everything. I am a victim of discrimination, classmates thought I am "slow" (euphemism for intellectual disability) and so just to get a good laugh, they tried to 'teach' me wrong things, like spitting on your hands and then styling your hair or eating leaves of trees. One of the @$$holes went as far as cutting my fingers with a razor blade. That same guy punched me in the eye, leaving it bloodshot red for a few weeks, and it still hurts whenever it gets irritated. I dissociated it, and after realization, that mother****er asked "who dun it?" and I don't remember my response.
