Hadn't anticiapted the impact on me of 2 young people about to embark on a life together - feeling really down, have had to turn all the radios and TV off, can't bear hearing about the wedding - I am due to go to a friends house to be in a party mood to watch it - really anxious about how I am going to keep my "mask" on and be happy.

How about this, concentrate on the word friends. You are going to be with a friend or two, you will not be alone, the program is just there, a story about two people, look at the buildings, art work and the way they do that style of wedding, don't look at it as something that you have to feel depressed about. I know that feeling low is difficult. But you have to think of ways to look for a bright light, something positive. Try to not think of it as you are only pretending to be happy, but think of it as, within that day you will allow yourself to see the bright side, feel some happiness. This way you are helping your brain to actually feel it instead of telling your brain, sorry, we are not going to feel it, we are only going to pretend. I feel that often we feed depression instead of working towards feeling better allowing ourselves to feel or think better. Give something positive back to yourself every day. You have to try to work against it, the brain is capable of many things if we try, one day at a time. Open Eyes ![]() |
