Dunno if this is the right place for this or not so if not feel free to move it mods making my best guess.

I am struggling with expressing my emotions... not because 'expression' in and of itself is an issue... I am finding that there just are not as many emotion words for 'positive' emotions as there are 'negative' ones. Maybe we just use the 'negative' ones more... dunno.

Like today I couldn't think of a word other than overwhelmed to describe what I was feeling but to me overwhelmed has a negative connotation. What I was feeling was very positive there was just a LOT of it.

Hiya Omers!

Great to see you in the forums again, and I'm glad the emotion was a positive experience for you!

I think you are right about there being few words for positive experiences. I think they come in entire descriptions as what you had to do-whaz with that lol? haha I think it's a good point. I'm always in the shadows yet I feel that is a positive thing-go figure. Who knows, maybe there is a word out there. I couldn't think of one that was not followed by a description though. lol.

Take care,
-obj

Hey Obj,
Good to see you too. It is just driving me crazy! I am having powerful, positive experiences with massage T and have to use 'negative' words then explain that I don't mean them in a negative way... Thank god massage T gets it!!!
I even tried looking it up online... WOW was that crazy and confusing!

Yes, I was reading about that, that there are more negative emotions than positive. I guess though that it's like dreams and memories; something with "umph" has to happen for it to be memorable; all the bright, sunny, summer days just kind of blend into each other? But have a hurricane show up and you remember it

One thing I try to remember is that most words have two "sides" so whatever connotation you are giving "overwhelmed" you should look for the other side? I would think of surfers :-) and how they'd want a really big, good wave and then they'd ride it but unless it was an "overwhelmingly" large wave, the ride wouldn't be as good? Or, how about an amusement park ride, a roller coaster? It's fun to be overwhelmed then (just like it's fun to be scared by scary movies). Sometimes being overwhelmed can get our energy back for us? When I'm feeling helpless, I often get really angry which is what gets me out of my helplessness.

I notice synonyms are: amaze, astound, astonish. "I am astonished at how tight that muscle is?" LOL

I've always found that it's much better to tack on adjectives, and to use metaphors, than to simply look for another word.

Ex: black fathoms of sorrow, velvet peaks of bliss
