Hi, I felt very embarassed today, and looking through my life it's just been one massive embarassment after another, so I wanted to see if I was alone in this or not.

Obviously I'm not saying I'm the only person to get embarassed ever, but I think I would be top of the tree in total embarassing incidents, or scale of embarassment, etc.

So tell me your stories.

For example, one day at a family get together I 'rapped' along to this rap song that was on the radio. It was harder than I thought it would be, because I don't normally put a lot of emotion or volume in my voice because I am shy, so it was kind of a half-effort, and this one girl looked at me like i was nuts.

Discuss.

I was gossiping about my roommate and his girlfriend not knowing he was in the house and could hear me. It sounds silly, but this happened years ago and I am still embarrassed when I think about it.

Researchers have found that people who display embarrassment at their social transgressions are more prone to be liked, forgiven, and trusted than those who do not, and, as a result, their embarrassment saves face (Keltner and Anderson, 2000).

interesting.

I was more wondering if I'm more of a social klutz than most people, and if so, how to avoid this.

Oh well, I have a good one for this! When I was 14, I went to an out of state football playoff with my team (I was a little league cheerleader at the time). So, we get to Gainesville, Fla. A bunch of "bad" girls rip out some booze and pot. I, not having a whole lot of experience in this at that point, par-took in the activities. Well, about an hour later, we all ended up at the mall to hang out. We were standing around with some of the football players and I ended up blacking out and grabbing this poor innocent guys *&*^&*. Not having any memory of it the next day, when I got on the bus to leave and EVERYBODY was snickering at me. I had no clue why everyone was staring at me AND laughing. Someone finally told me. I thought I was going to die right there. Lesson on teenaged drinking.

I once walked halfway to the grocery store with my skirt tucked into the back of my underpants.

I do stuff like this all the time. People seriously must think I am crazy. I am not really one to start rapping, but I just say things that I think will be witty or funny and it ends up being a super awkward silence afterwards. I can't think of specific things that I do, but I am just a silly person at heart. I really can't be myself around others and be accepted (at least the way I do). It really only takes me a few minutes of talking to a person for me to just let my guard down and I kick myself after I do normally, because the things I say would only be okay to say around a close friend, if that makes sense. I have a very strong personality, and a lot of people can't handle it. I don't think I'm describing any of this very well here either...

The other day I was walking down the hall at uni and I tripped. Everyone was staring at me, but I pretended I didn't notice, got up proudly and walked away.

Lately I have had more of these moments than I would care to admit and unfortunately they have been at school with some of the same people around. I have heard "dingy" come up a few times now. Trying to laugh at myself but some of them are even getting to me now. Some of the lighter ones...

Missed the arrow pointing up on the copier card machine to run the card strip up through the right way, holding up the line to use it and had to get help. Reminded me of the Farside cartoon: "Midvale School for the Gifted" Pushing on the door that says pull.

Fellow in same two classes all semester and he comments in the second class after which we just took a test in the one before: "That was such a hard test." I asked, "Which class was that?" Losing my mind.
