So, I was just thinking of how whenever I'm in a pissy mood about whatever or whoever, I alwasys have to listen to my favorite angsty songs. I try to liven my mood by listening to upbeat songs sometimes first. Like now, but I'm about to switch over to some darker, angrier songs. I find that I have to do this in order to get rid of my bad mood, sorta like exercising a demon. Sure, if I have a dark mood while in public like with family or at work I can control my emotions and be upbeat but I know eventually I'll have to experience it to get through it. I've always had trouble with emotions. How to deal with them, acknowledging them, etc. Listening to angry (aka: angsty) music helps me through difficult emotions. Like when I'm really sad, I can't listen to a happy song because it'll make me cry. I have to listen to a bunch of songs that eminate my mood until finally I feel better and can't listen to the sad songs anymore because they'll start to bring me down. Also, when I'm in aq super good mood I have to skip all the angsty songs on my various music playlists (usually rock). So, I came to the realization that for me this is a bit like exercising my inner demons, so to speak. Getting rid of negative energy. I was wondering if anyone experiences anything similar, whether with music or some other way?

There isn't anything I can do to make myself feel better except give it time.

I experience something similar with angry music. Helps me with releasing and processing. On the other hand, if I'm only feeling fidgety or nervous I listen to something happy or soft/calm. Something extra: In both cases I may sing as loud as I can (a friend recommended this). The other things I usually do are drawing, dancing, writing, and kicking a soccer ball against the wall.

Seether (Gasoline, Fake it);
Nirvana (In bloom, Teen spirit, heart shaped box); Foo Fighters (Monkeywrench; Pretender; Hero); Green Day (Paradise, When I come around; King for a day) OffSpring(No brakes, staring at the sun); Weezer; Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Korn, Marilyn manson(usually just two songs by him) just to name a few. Whenever I get the opportunity I do this myself. If I'm sad I love Amy Winehouse and Kula Shaker. If I'm mad it's Manson, Tool or Skrillex. They have to be songs that I pick out though, if someone else picks the same songs that I would have picked it makes me mad for some reason. I guess I need to have some kind of control at that point.

I am the exact same way. Especially when I'm upset/sad/angry I like to listen to music. I have certain bands and cds that I listen to when I feel this way. I often hop in my car put in a certain cd and drive around with the music really loud...usually singing loudly along...I find it helps me work through my bad moods.

When I'm happy or excited I like to listen to different types of music..more upbeat dance type music.

I always match music to mood
