I never seem to feel happy anymore. And when I do, it doesn't last long. Everything in my life is going relatively well right now, and I feel like I SHOULD be feeling very happy. But I normally feel down, sad or stressed. I want to be greatful for everything going so well for me, and I feel like I don't have the right to not be happy. I want to feel happy, and like I said, I feel like I should be feeling happy, and don't understand why I don't. I don't feel depressed, just low. Its almost like even though things are going well, its not good enough. I'm tired of feeling like this.

Maybe you don't THINK you're depressed, but it sure sounds like you are! It sounds like you need to talk to a therapist. Any chance you can see one? It would be the best thing for you. Therapy helped me a great deal.

If you cannot afford therapy, at LEAST get in to see your medical doctor. He CAN help you by putting you on a temporary antidepressant until you CAN see a therapist. I know none of us wants to be on medications, but it's better than suffering like this. Give him a call, and let him help you. I wish you the very best. Please take care and let us know how you're doing, ok? God bless. Hugs, Lee

Thank you. I guess you could be right. I guess I feel like its just natural to have downs like this, and that saying I'm depressed would be over reacting.

I spoke to a good friend of mine a couple months ago when I was feeling low. She had been depressed, and went on anti-depressants from her doctor which she said really helped. She told me I should try this too. I did attempt to make an appt with my doctor, but I was never able to get through. Then I felt really good for a couple weeks, so I abandoned the idea.

I have a lot of ups and downs I find. I had a really good weekend last weekend, and I felt pretty good. But since Monday I haven't been. I don't really know.

People who suffer from recurrent depression can have "good" days too, but they aren't frequent. I still suggest talking with either a therapist or your doctor. Since the "lows" keep coming back, you probably are suffering from depression.

It wouldn't hurt to see what your doctor has to say. Best of luck! Hugs, Lee

Well, I can relate to what you are saying. I have what Leed mentioned, recurrent major depression. I have often had depression when things are going just fine in my life. I would recommend looking into therapy and talking to your doctor. I am not one to tell others what to do, but for me I need medication for my depression. I wish you well and hope that you will keep posting.

Hi NinaNina --

My brain chemistry is a little off, I guess, and finding the right anti-depressant has made a big difference. I don't like taking it, and it does not mean that I am just happy, happy, happy all the time.

It means that when I am unhappy, I can recognize that there are unhappy and happy times in life and be more philosophical about it. Maybe, too, this is partly becoming more mature, because I am an old dog now.

It wasn't easy to find the right med; not like walking into a Dr's office and he wriites a scrip for Prozac and suddenly life is all better.

But it has made a difference, and this may be worth a try.

As well, I think in the USA we feel entitled to be happy all the time. But how can I know I'm happy if I do not experience unhappiness, too? That's the way I can think about this now.

I hope you find the solution that works for you. We are here for you.
