I don't even know where to begin right now. I started off reading articles on Huff post as usual. Came across "is victim forgotten?" and read about that. I never heard of this story but I quickly learned all about it by following link after link. Eventually after following a series of links I ended up on a website called bestgore.com where someone writes about what happens in the 1 guy 1 ice pick video. The image was hard to take but I scrolled past it. I read the article with disbelief. I read the comments below it and that was even harder to take in.
People seriously getting off on watching others die. One woman said she was disapointed the murderer didn't actually show the initially throat slashing [ or something] she said "I would really like to watch his life taken away." WHAT. THE. *****. IS. WRONG. WITH. PEOPLE.

WHY are they allowed to publish things like this?
WHY isn't this website against the law?
WHY do people sit around openly discussing which gory video posted by which-ever pyscho on the internet they enjoyed watching most?

I am going to puke.

So basically.. where are the petitions to censor this crap from the web? Where are the activists?

I'm pretty fearless on the web but I've never come across that site. Sounds like something you have to look for or be turned on to by someone.
I don't know if there are any laws regarding that kind of site and I'm not sure I would want to see any new laws regarding internet freedom.
I wouldn't visit the site but I wouldn't sign a petition to see it outlawed either. Sorry.
Thanks for this!

Don't apologize, I appreciate your opinion. What are your thoughts on the individuals who cheer on the murderer? [I am not asking so I can argue or bash, I just want to converse about different points of views... open my mind a little]

p.s. I love how you are usually on here late at night. It's 2am where I live and I am stuck at work another 5 hours, it's nice having people to converse with

It's 2am there? Not sure why but I thought you were in the UK. Must have been the LadyJane part of your name
I don't differ with you view much except on the censorship. And I don't have any keen insights on the people who enjoy that kind of thing.
What do I think about the individuals that commented on the vid(s) ... not much.
Some of them are probably truly sick... some probably just have some kind of internet thing happening.... anonymity allowing the expression of dark thoughts... trying to be shocking? I dunno. I know people do get off on that stuff. I know guys who joined the military specifically so they could kill someone legally. So yeah... those people are out there.

Interesting perspective.. those who are indulging in their dark thoughts through anonymity.
I didn't think of that. I suppose what I thought was at first was cruelty. I thought maybe these are people who have no empathy. As if the videos of murder they watch are only videos. They've detached themselves from the reality of it. Or conditioned themselves.
But then it makes me wonder what that type of individual would do when confronted with gore or death in real life? Would they whimper away from it or be attracted to it?
I count myself lucky to not have run into anyone [knowledgeably anyway] like this in my life. Yet at the same time I count myself ignorant and sheltered.
The worst gore I've ever seen was a man whose scalp was chopped off his head after he tripped and caught his head in the wrong direction of a counter. I couldn't shake the image of his bloody skull from my mind for months following that.

'Jane' comes from the typical anonymity of female and I chose Lady for although I speak strongly or at times immaturely.. I laughed until I cried when I saw this video earlier
but I am still a lady

Are those sharks in your tide?

I think there is something in your detachment theory. Maybe from too many kills playing video games? But yeah... there are people who do and people who would like to but don't/can't. I guess the ones who watch those vids and enjoy them fall in the latter category.
The vid was hilarious. I'm trying to convince myself that the audio wasn't dubbed in lol. I saw some ummm... Galapagos(?) tortoises mating at the zoo when I was a child. That was a sight. I don't remember any love sounds but the guy was making an amazing effort though

It IS hilarious! There is a story behind it too, I got it from Reddit. If you are interested in a funny yet quirky kind of story I can PM it to you. I'd rather not offend the community by posting it, lol. BUT once you read the story you'll laugh even harder at the turtle noises.

Did you take that pic? You always have the best sig pics.

I don't think you would offend the community posting about sex I read a post tonight that made me seriously LOL. Not as funny as the turtles but funny. I had to send a link to a friend I was skyping with. Sure, send me the story
No, sorry but I didn't take that photo. It's a pretty common sight though.

I've been following this case closely - its really shaken me up to the core and forced me to take off my rose colored glasses. My heart literally aches for this man/his family and I'm disturbed knowing there's this kind of evil/disregard for another human being and disrespect for a dead body. I wasn't naive like when I was 18 but this case and website showed me how there's completely strange and evil people out there - can't find the words to describe them. I tend to be curious, so I visited the site but I think you have to become a member to actually see videos. I didn't want to see it BUT I did read what was in it. I wish I could get it out of my mind and I'm shocked beyond belief that any human could do what he did. I can't even tell anyone some of the details, he did. The owner of this site and his customers talk about the details of these videos...as if they're watching a chicken being prepared for dinner. The owner gave his own written summary of the video and how he called it a night, then self pleasured himself. I just don't understand this kind of thinking and it scares me.

Even more shocking is - there are people who seek this out. What kind of person wants to watch a real murder. It wasn't a simple murder either - its what he did after that is the most vile and evil thing. He also mailed the hands and feet - 2 to the govern't offices and 2 to an elementary schools in British Columbia - the head is still missing and who knows where it is.. I can't find the words for this Luka Magnotta or Eric Newman is his real boring name - to call him mentally ill would be an insult to anyone who has mental illness. There's no word to describe his actions - the epitome of evil/disgust is all I can say!!!!

Back to the subject of should these sites be allowed. The guy who owns this site, claims he wants people to know the evil reality of the world. The fact is, this was a snuff film - an actual live murder. This is against the law. If online bullying is illegal ....why can't lawmakers make this illegal. What about the victims family - this was someones son or brother or nephew. Do we want our loved ones death available online??? Where's the empathy - I've spent 80% of my days since this all happened, feeling so bothered and so much sympathy for this man / his family and friends. Some countries have strong censorship - like no porn or bashing of their govern't - I don't support that. There has to be a line of some kind though, because it getting so pathologically sick on the internet. There's one case where parents lost their daughter in a morbid car accident - a man took pictures of their daughter and put them on one of these sites...the gorier the better.

One time I was searching for a suicide helpline for a member who was from a different country. I typed in "suicide helplines in --------" I'm leaving it out to protect others from seeing what I saw. What came up was an actual suicide of a man hanging himself - he set up his webcam initially to broadcast this on a live chat site - within seconds he did it. It immediately started playing and I was literally frozen - anyone can watch this man kill himself. Do families have the right to prevent their loved ones death or gory pics of their loved ones off the internet?? Thanks to Newman/Magnotta for confirming some humans are vile / disgusting and sites like these with no empathy or regard for life....my brain will never be the same. Sorry for the long post but this case has caused me mental stress and I needed to vent. I was thinking of starting a thread on this topic.

Seriously Lynn P...every single word you just wrote are the exact ones that have been crossing my mind since I read it. I can't stop thinking about it, as if it has lodged itself in my brain with no escape or relief. I read the same article as you did and the comments are the worst of it all in my opinion. I didn't see where the guy said he pleasured himself but I scanned over some parts out of nausea and I probably missed it.
My point exactly though... why is this website legal? That is what I want to know. Respectfully, I think this crosses the line of "freedom of speech."
I wish I could create a program to self-censor my own internet on my computers. I can type in keywords into a filter and it will block any article and etc that regards those kinds of things. I fear I am more happy in an ignorant state of mind.
Last week I read about the massacre in Syria, and read about how the images were posted all over the internet of the poor [49?] children brutally murdered.
Where is the respect for human life? Where is the empathy?
I don't think cannibalism [or anything regarding any form of murder and etc] should be classified as a form of mental disorder. I agree, it is a disgrace to the rest of us putting us in the same classification of conditions. I think there should be a name of it's own for this.

I understand the curiosity of death or gore, what is inside of our bodies anyway? But a website like rotten.com is different than this one. There are no images or videos posted purely for the enjoyment of watching someone die. Or dead then raped. This is just sickening.

I apologize to everyone for my rant but I feel if I don't talk about it I will never let it go from my mind. Thank you Lynn P for your input. I feel better knowing I am not the only one mentally suffering from our new found knowledge of the world.

Thanks for the reply ladyjane4rent - sorry you've been affected as I have.

I tried to find where the owner said he did this after viewing the video, but couldn't find it. He changes written content regularly, so maybe he edited it or I couldn't find it - he used a slang term. He's in a lot of hot water now with more people knowing this site exists but he vehemently defends it and even credits himself in playing a role in tipping off police. The only thing I agree with, is at least the police have a clear conviction with this video. I bet some shifty lawyer will say...."well we don't actually see him do the murder".

This Magnotta violated every taboo. I'm shocked there are people capable of this violation - how a human ends up this way, I'll never know. The owner of this site claims he's letting people know what kind of humans are doing these deeds and its better to know, than be blind/deaf to reality. I just feel sad there are people who do these crimes and people who want to watch it. The owner should have turned the video over to the police and not posted it. Yes I agree the comments were cavalier and cold ........almost giving a video review.

Re suggestion mental illness is not a factor..... I don't know how it couldn't be a factor. No mind in proper working order could process such evil acts of horror let alone act them out. These are more than violent crimes these are violent psychopathic crimes.

I hear the word evil used instead of attributing mental illness as though there were a line separating the two somehow. What is evil if it isn't the acting out of thoughts and behaviours such as this? Why is someone compelled to do such evil? Can an evil doer do evil with a clear and functional mind?

It just seems to me there can be no question mental illness is present. A question that does remain is can justice ever be found in cases like this. What kind of punishment would fit such crimes? Justice..... punishment.... they can't even be applied. They fall weak. The horrors are too unimaginable to equate any justice or payment.

As for the more pressing question of how do we protect society from this kind of lunicy.... it seems to me it starts with destigmitizing mental illness and it starts with honestly recognizing it when it is present and before it results in horrific acts of lunicy.

These stories bring up lots of hot social topics that are complex and multi-dimensional. We search for answers and we search for justice but no matter what we fall short of finding any comfort or satisfaction. We face the horrors of our humanity and we can't separate ourselves from it and that is unnerving at every level.

As to the OP's original question re: censoring the web... I am not for any internet oversites just yet. I prefer we self censor. If people didn't frequent those kinds of sites they wouldn't exist. The fact that they do and that they have a following is an ugly bit of reality.

Trigger..........

Lynn..... you made mention of the PETA org. No doubt you recall the incident on the Greyhound bus of the beheading..... Well PETA did an ad campagn using the pic of the perp holding the victims head with the bi-line something like..... 'this happens to #### animals everyday but where is the outcry for them?'. PETA did that. Be careful who you support. PETA has a pretty long evil streak in their midst.

Those are some very logical points you raised. At the moment I am not feeling as strongly as I was before [not obsessively thinking about it] and probably I was wrong about the mental illness thing. I just feel they are so inhumane, there really is no perfect word to top off their acts/posts.
I have always related the word 'evil' in a religious way but after all this I feel it is the only word to describe it. "Can an evil doer do evil with a clear and functional mind? " I would like to know this... that is an interesting question.

"We search for answers and we search for justice but no matter what we fall short of finding any comfort or satisfaction. "
What could be the answer to this? When we are subjected to media speaking the truth of all angles in the world.. how does one find a way to "cleanse" after acknowledging the dirty truths? There could be no satisfaction because those who are outraged by these acts are the ones who can never be comforted after hearing it. All others are apathetic towards it or partaking in it, right?
True, true words you speak. How did you get so smart?
Thanks for expressing your points. I love hearing all the different points of views.

I suppose if they didn't exist we wouldn't know what type of people there are out there. Maybe a group of someones can come up with a tactful way of preventing murder/murderers by following the sites? Perhaps they exist for a greater reason than I instantly presumed?

Warning: Extremely Graphic!

You have stumbled upon a website that features gore videos and images. Due to extremely graphic nature of materials found on Best Gore, access is restricted to adults only. If you are 18 years of age or over and wish to be reminded of real life, then be my guest, but do NOT take the warning lightly. Videos and images posted on Best Gore are bloody, gut wrenching, teeth grinding, offensive and upsetting. Just as the life itself.

If you are not 18 or do not wish to preview this kind of content LEAVE THE SITE BY CLICKIN ON PICTURE OF CUTE PUPPY BELOW:

i only can speak for my self, for me this site have a warning and if you dont want to watch or triggering by things like this just simply leave the site, every human are different some have interest on political issue some on religion some on sex and some on murder, like me unfortunately iam the one who like to watch crime scene and interested to murder. iam curious to know the pattern and i need to see all these thing to learn and strong mentally ( want to be forensic psychologist and almost go to libya as therapist for children victim of war a year ago), i remembered when tsunami hit aceh a lot of my friends and people becamoe so depressed after back from there because dead body are everywhere and we never seen anything like that so instead of helping them a lot of people need therapy , and i think if its happened in my family or happened to me i want the world to see how cruel is that so people aware of it and so it would never happen to anyone else again.
just because i like to watch thing like this doesnt make me have desire to kill someone , the only human that i want to kill is me no one else i just happens to like crazy thing ..

i agree people are cruel and some comment are really sickening, but people like this are everywhere,i once stumbled to one video on youtube its a girl singing a song she's physically challannge and have prob
em with her speech and some comment there really sickening .. you not gonna believe people could say something like that but theres some p[eople just like that ..cruel and have no conscience

everything in life have negative and positive side .. and theres always pro and contra about everything.
i think its better to protect yourself from thing you dont want to see because internet its never a safe place anyway

*hugs*

TRIGGER WARNING!

Its fine for people to have different opinions but this is my opinion. I know this site has a clear warning and its then the persons choice to go further.....BUT when you 1st go to that site....... there's a gruesome pic of an oriental woman literally skewered like a shish kabob over an open fire.... so much for the warning. I pray this is a photo shopped pic and if it isn't then I don't know the world we live in I guess. Child pornography and snuff films are illegal, so this man shouldn't have put/allowed this to be on his site. There has to be a limit. I ask this one question - if this was your family member, would you be fine with others seeing the last moments on video and the body disrespected in the worst way?? If your family was in a fatal gruesome car accident, would you be fine with a person taking pics and putting them online? There are sites that help physically healthy people who may be depressed kill themselves - is that fine? There's sites that show women being raped. Its fine to want to see a post mortem or a graphic operation(for medical /education reasons, but NOT a murder, without the families permission. Personally I'm fine with dead bodies or an operation but not with a murder or deliberate defiling a body.

Regarding my comment of whether Magnotta's mentally ill - I didn't want to insult the mentally ill community by lumping him with them. Why when someone does something vile and evil ....do we think the person's mentally ill?? Can't a person just be evil. This was premeditated crime and he promised to kill a person. He's well known for killing kittens. I don't want to see this person plead mental illness and then get a lighter sentence. He even announced he was going to do an ice pic murder on youtude 2 weeks before this. Think about this victims family - is it fine for them to see their loved one carved, defiled and eaten online? I can't understand why anyone would need to see this, except for the jury, police detectives and lawyers. Should the internet be a free for all to reject any laws or moral values?

Just playing devils advocate here. You seem to have focused on this story quite a bit. Have you found anything about his childhood? Was he abused?
Who is to say he isn't mentally ill. There are many news stories detailing violent and often horrific crimes committed by returning combat vets from the Iraq and Afghanistan fighting. Murders, rapes, beatings, one vet repeatedly bashed his child against a wall. Are they evil? Or could it be PTSD?
I'm not really interested in hypothetical questions about someone putting gruesome photos of deceased family members on the net. I'd never see them. Nobody I know would ever see them.
I've been surfing the net for most of my life and I've never seen any sites like this. Leads me to believe one would have to do some serious searching to find them. One would have to want to see them. I'm not going to try it to find out but I don't think you could type "snuff films" or "rape films" in google and find them.
I believe that there are domain and server guidelines and regulations that are enforced when reported along with law enforcement agencies around the world looking for illegal website content.
So, no, the internet shouldn't be and isn't lawless. Moral values... whose moral values?

Sorry but I don't think there's any justification, such as child abuse etc that would warrant his actions. This was clearly a premeditated act and he bragged about wanting to kill a human to a UK reporter. He also posted a video on youtude with a pic of him holding an ice pic, 2 weeks prior to this video. There are many victims of childhood horrors who wouldn't hurt a fly.

Murders, rapes, beatings, one vet repeatedly bashed his child against a wall. Are they evil? Or could it be PTSD? Usually a PSTD crime would be spontaneous not premeditated. He may very well try to blame this on mental illness and I only said this because I feel its an insult to the mentally ill to throw him in the same classification. I've never heard of such despicable acts and professionals may need to find a new word to describe this man. I read somewhere he may be bipolar but that's no excuse to do what he did.
I'm not really interested in hypothetical questions about someone putting gruesome photos of deceased family members on the net. I'd never see them. Nobody I know would ever see them. I saw this on 20/20 news show on TV about a man who takes gruesome accident photos and puts them online for people who like to see them. Just because you / your friends wouldn't look for them doesn't mean they're not out there. Don't the parents of this young lady have the right, not to have these pics of their daughter out there, for the entertainment of a select group of sickos??

So, no, the internet shouldn't be and isn't lawless. Moral values... whose moral values? Basic human values like no Necrophilia, killing a person, defiling a human being after death, dismembering a human, Cannibalism and rape

PETA did that. Be careful who you support. PETA has a pretty long evil streak in their midst.
Yes I remember that horrible case of beheading by the schizophrenic man. I don't support PETA and on;y mentioned them because they put up a reward for videos of him killing kittens. I'm all for animal rights and didn't know PETA put up that ad and would be completely against that for the same reasons - respect for the poor man's family.

I'm frustrated with the police and why Magnotta wasn't brought up on charges of animal abuse. The reporter for the UK sun told police the paper published a letter from Magnotta 2 yrs ago that he was intending to move up from kittens and kill humans. A lawyer who saw this video of him dismembering, eating, assaulting after death - he called the police but they came to the conclusion it must have been fake. This gave him time to mail body parts and leave the country.

I want to clarify that I just don't care to jump to the conclusion that every time there's a freaky murder, the persons assumed to be mentally ill. I'm sticking up for the kind law abiding mentally ill members of this site etc. I admit I got very triggered by this extremely unusual case and I've never heard or knew someone could be this sick and cruel. My heart aches for this victim, his family and for the poor people who had to open the mail containing body parts. This victim had a family and his mom flew from China - she had to be carried in the airport because she was too distraught to walk. Since I was a young girl one thing always remained with me - treat others as you want to be treated. I don't think I could live if this was done to my child for the whole world to see. This is why I'm furious.

This isn't related to your comment, but I forgot to add - ever since I happened upon that video of the guy who hung himself - I've been wanting to discuss this topic of where lines should be drawn. We can all imagine how this mans family must feel, knowing this video of him dying is available. I lost my brother to suicide and would be mortified if his suicide was taped for anyone to see.

That doesn't for me ... a little confusing but thanks for the effort. I'll try to respond to everything. First I want to be sure you know this isn't confrontational on my part. Just a nice exchange of ideas and opinions between adults

I'm focusing on Magnotta because that's the title of the thread.
Yes...which is why I thought you may have found some info on his early life that the rest of us haven't read.

There are many victims of childhood horrors who wouldn't hurt a fly.
Evidently. And there are also some who would go much further than hurting flies.

The next comment... I'll leave the mental illness question up to judges, juries, and psychiatrists. I think it is valid question though. This guy was once a cute little innocent baby I would guess. Who knows what happened between then and now and how it affected him.

I saw this on 20/20 news show on TV about a man who takes gruesome accident photos and puts them online for people who like to see them. Well, there is an important difference between this what you said before. My family, friends, and I would never see or be aware of it...why would we care?
As for the photos... I don't know who owns them. If they are in the public domain, they are legal until someone proves otherwise.
I'm sure the Kennedy family didn't appreciate graphic film of the JFK assassination or autopsy photos being shown on network television thousands of times and yet they were shown.

I have Google and on the news links for this case the Bestgore was a link. This Magnotta video was a snuff film. If it's there and hasn't been taken down and no arrest warrants have been issued for the site owner(s) then how do you know it's illegal content?

Basic human values like no Necrophilia, killing a person, defiling a human being after death, dismembering a human, Cannibalism and rape
I'm sure all those acts are illegal in most countries. I have no clue if displaying images or the acts is legal. If you saw these acts displayed on a website and believe this is illegal then I think you should report the website to the proper authorities.
There are many websites with film and still images taken at crime scenes. Includes images of the victim(s), body parts, and in rare cases, even the actual crime itself. These are mostly well-known cases e.g. the Kennedy's, the Tate murders, etc, but some are less well known. I'm not at all familiar with the laws on this but apparently it is legal to quite an extent.

I would imagine the police are going to deal with the owner of this site and so far he's refusing to be interviewed. Its common knowledge its illegal to film and distribute a live murder...not to mention dismemberment and everything else he did in the 10 min video. I read he will take the video down if the police or his family asks him too. Yes I realize the famous cases are treated differently and yes they're graphic. I don't know if you're aware of the Bernardo murders here in Cananda but he taped his victims because he held them captive. Only the court was permitted to see these tapes, out of respect for the young ladies families. Its illegal to tape a murder and broadcast it.
