Should I join a songwriters group. I was runner up in a songwriting contest, honorable mention no prize. My dream was always to sing, but I'm nearly 39 (March 11th is the big day) and think maybe if I focused on another area it might prove beneficial or at least be fun, but I keep putting off joining though. Maybe I should just buck up and sign up.

The group meets twice a month is about an hour away, so it's doable. I've had lots of my song ideas stolen and made into hits, I know I need some work but have a knack of somesort. Just makes me nervous to join a group including actually professionally I feel like a total novice.

Why NOT join? Since you have a knack for it, it can't do any harm. And any "pros" that are in the group aren't any different than YOU are. And besides, did you know that newcomers sometimes TEACH "oldies" ALOT of things? I've found that true in many areas. So don't feel self -conscious just cause you're a "newbie" cause you just might put a spark in some of the old timers and give them some fresh new ideas!

So go ahead and join the group -- and do us a favor? Let us know when your first hit gets on the charts, will ya? We won't have a clue since we don't know your name! LOL God bless and please take care -- and start writing those songs! Hugs, Lee

PS -- by the way, I love ballads.

You could try it and see if you like it. Do you know people in it? I think the purpose of these groups is to help each other grow artistically and they could give you good practical advice on making your dreams into goals. Don't you think it's worth a try? Good Luck and I hope it helps you find your way.

It doesn't sound like the desire/interest is just going to go away so you might as well just give that a try or look around for another option that feels more comfortable.
