I was listening to my relaxation tape and the phone rang. I could not answer it and my answering machine was not working right.

I *69'd them.

I got a message saying that number cannot be called.

And I automatically got really mad.

I hate it when I can't control a situation.

And it really disturbs me when I get so angry.

I hate back numbers. I hate it when someone can call me but I can't call them, why do we even have *69 if it doesn't fracking work?!

It's not a big deal, I know.

But this has happened most of my life. Someone always had power over me, control, more control than I did. I lived in unequal relationships.

I am an adult. I know this is just life.

But I still react to it and I am ashamed.

Maybe I will do a DBT thing called nonjudgemental stance. Stop judging myself now. Stop judging that guy who called me from a back number.

Carol

A lot of solicitation or hospital or drs and insurance and stuff have a general number they call out from, but you can't call back to it. I get that a lot.
Thanks for this!

How do you deal with it, hankster?

(I am open to any other feedback from anyone else, too)

Hi Carol. . .sorry about the anger producing situation. I have plenty of those myself. I've been using an ACT technique of simply observing the anger - making room for it. But what has helped the most is REBT. Disputing my irrational thinking. Take care. . .

Could these be displaced feelings? Has this brought up feelings that actually belong to something else?
Thanks for this!

Sorry for the late reply, this just bumped up.

It doesn't bother me really, I don't get that many calls? I was just offering an explanation of what it might be. Everytime my GP calls me I swear it's from a disposable phone, it never shows his name. At least the other docs do show a hospital number, so you know the general areas - psych or sleep disorders or whatever.

It might have been medicare, they finally got a hold of me to answer some stupid survey I didn't mail back. They called from another state.
Thanks for this!

It's probably stuff from my childhood. Feelings that belong in the past.

From being powerless.

I had the same feeling just now when I could not remember my password here.
