i'm a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, and emotions are coming up about certain issues that i don't know how to handle sober. has anyone been in my position or at least knows what i'm talking about? i keep having these very minor manic episodes and i just don't know how to deal with them. does anyone have tips, tricks or coping mechanisms i could use the next time i have a break down/manic episode?

You are having "Manic" episodes because your feelings are now surfacing. It is normal part of recovery.
Thanks for this!

Katie - I can relate to some extent. When the episodes come, try and do some deep breathing. It will help calm you down. Take 5 or 10 minutes a day and just practice some deep breathing to get yourself accustomed to it. as you take in more oxygen, it will slow down you feelings/emotions. Its ok to feel Katie. Don't be scared. They are just emotions. They are not bad. It does not mean anything is wrong. Some people journal their feelings and it helps them cope. Try and find someone who will just listen - not offer advice, not try to "fix" you but just merely listen to what and how you are feeling. That has helped me a lot. Remind yourself that its normal and its ok. I have had to do a lot of "inner child" work to let the little boy inside of me know that he is safe now. If you find that some of the emotions stem from childhood, I would recommend finding a therapist to help you do some inner child work. Most of my feelings/emotions stemmed from childhood. Hope this helps !
