I usually will talk myself through things I can't remember, and usually come up with an answer that I need, like in math, if I can't remember that 2+9 is 11, I just say 2+9, the answer pops into my head no matter how nervous I am. If I am taking a test, I don't think the teacher would like this very much, so are there other ways of remembering things that don't involve actually saying what I need to remember out loud?

You have an excellent Method here. Do not change that, because you feel others may disapprove.
Thanks for this!
