This happens to me, I made a decision not to put myself in a bad situation.

Hey sweetie. I kinda know how that feels, my family, especially at gatherings, often pretends that I'm not even there. It even happens at my own birthday, my sister often the star of the show.

However, if you can't talk to them about it, if you can get through, it's perhaps just best to give them up.

Family does not always know how to behave. I could be the President of the United States and they would still treat me like I have no value. I know better. I do not have to define myself through them...or spend time with them.

Hello Flowerpetal,

I get this kind of treatment from my parents, brother and some relatives. I have chosen to stay away from them because of being tired of ill treatment and verbal emotional abuse. If they can't give me respect, acknowledgement, understanding, support, and love... then they can stay away from me for good.

I'm sorry you are going through stressful things with your family. I hope everything works out for the better. There are a lot of good books out there that helped me make my decision on what to do.
