Went out with my son this morning to walk him to the bus stop at the bottom of our driveway, and there was one of the stray cats dead. Just right there in our driveway. I don't know what happened. Usually cats wander off when they're ill. Of all the strays that have been around (that I haven't taken in) since I've been here, I've never seen one dead. They've all left. Cats are my thing, so I'm really upset. I came inside and have been crying off and on since my son left on the bus. My husband stopped by from work and is burying him now. I've been depressed anyway as my son has gone back to school and have been coping with strong feelings of loneliness. I didn't fare well after our fire with being left alone all day long. My son being home for the summer helped a lot, but here we are again. Also just being flooded with memories of last fall before our fire when things were good. The slant of light is giving that fall feel that I usually love but now find hard to bear.

There is nothing you could have done about the cat you're being hard on yourself. I can tell that you really love animals.

I try to keep myself busy if I'm feeling lonely, it may work for you too.

It's one I've seen around a few times. Just feel so sorry for it. Homeless and unloved. My husband said he saw no wounds or injuries, but it was stiff and had been there awhile. Just - what a way to start your day, ya know?? Cried all morning and on my mind the rest of the day. I do try to busy myself somewhat. Thanks. It does usually help.

I love animals a lot, too. Especially cats, since I've only owned cats since I was 9. I often find sick and dead animals and it's awful. And it always brings other problems to focus, too. I'll go, a stray pet that I've been caring for and x also happened and so did y and my life is a mess. I always try to keep myself busy and then remember all the good things that also happened (even if they don't compare to the bad things that keep happening) just to feel better. So, I just wanted to say hang in there and that I completely understand.
