For the last week I've been having nightmares about one particular event that happened earlier this year, and I wake up crying. I've been very moody towards family and been told I am blowing things out of proportion. I am very tired during the day but can't take naps. I don't drink caffeine. I am going to see someone but never experienced this

If an event occurred that caused you significant pain, stress, hurt, or upset... then I'd consider it trauma.

There's no textbook definition for what constitutes trauma and what doesn't. It's all about what the individual perceives as traumatic. Something may bother you, but not bother me. And then something that may not bother you may bother me.
Thanks for this!
