I'm a female in a trade, been there 3 years now.
I started there when things got tough for me, I dropped out of college, and moved away from my mum.
Anyway. When I started there, it was a awesome! The quality of work was good, and it was busy. Heaps has changed in the 3 years. We're so quiet, and no one around me seems to care about their work.
It makes it so hard for me to take any pride in what I do. It frustrates the hell out of me.
I am the refinisher. The final process. The people before me, are the ones who determine how good my job can look. And with their half arsed effort, how do I complete the level of work which I want to achieve.

Today at work, I got so angry with the people around me. So so angry. I just felt like crying or screaming. But I can't make a scene. So I bottle it in.
I thought this year, it will be different.
I'll leave all their crap attitudes in the last year, and move on to a better year. Oke where I will do my best to get the best out of them that I can.
But already I am failing.
How is it, that the apprentice, I, am the only one who cares about the work.

Somedays, I just wish I had someone I could share all this with. Someone who would care, and who would listen.
But I know, even if I did have someone, I wouldn't have the guts to talk to them :/

I understand how you feel. I used to do shift work and I was left with screw ups from the previous shift. I was irritated but if I was going to survive in that job I just had to fix the problems if they could be fixed and do the best job that I could with what I had to work with. If I couldn't curb my attitude, I would leave the job. I don't know if that is a possibly for you as it was not hard finding a new job back then. So I guess since you most probably can't change them (unless you try with management and get a headache from it) then I would just do the best that I can. Kudos to you for your commitment to your work.

Hope this helps in some small way.

Hi. Gosh it sucks to work with people who take no pride in their work. Grrrr!!!!

If you can express the pride you have in your workmanship and how its impacted by inferior workmanship without pointing fingers with higher level management do so. My assumption is your immediate supervisors don't care either.

Lastly, if all else fails, take the challenge of seeing "junk" and you making it into a masterpiece. You may end up the most talented apprentice in history!

I know where you're comming from, the amount of times i have had to get out of work due to atomic meltdown is constantly rising, people dont have work ethics or morals in todays society, laziness, stupidity, incompetence & the "somebody else will do it" attitude. Do your best & take pride in what you do (dont take up their slack!) & except that sometimes you cant polish the pile of **** into a diamond. If you take up their slack then they will do less & less because "20oney will do it"
