Hello there, im new here in this forum and the reason why i thought of joining is because i am still confused with my life and i think i have depression...
So to start with, i am a 13 year old girl and i live in a boarding school that is considered a prestigious school here where i live.. I feel so burdened staying there and i just dont feel like myself... I want to quit from that school but people around me are saying as if i would never be successful if i quit.
To be honest, i had been feeling depressed since i was 10, i felt helpless and useless, i gained a lot of weight and either sleep too much or too little. I used to be out-going but now i just want to stay in my room, inside my comfort zone where people wont give me weird stares.. To tell you, i am the 3rd child from 5 and i do feel left out sometimes. Im not that close to either of my parents and i rarely tell them what happens to me in school and such. It is to the point where i get shy to ask them to buy something for me, even if it was just a biscuit, i would think twice. There was once, i wanted to join a baking class but was too shy to ask, i email-ed my mom instead. While my two elder sisters are creating their names out there, i live in a shell of shame. There was one time where my mom's friend was surprised to know that i exist...
So i thought, why bother putting me in a big school that needs lots of money when i cant perform? I dont see the point of anything because for me, i am sure i wont be notice until forever.

Welcome to Psych Central (PC). Sorry to hear you are feeling hurt and neglected. It can be a matter of how we were treated as children that builds or tears down our self esteem.

There are many caring people here at PC and you also might try a therapist that specializes in children. A psychiatrist can prescribe medication that can diminish the symptoms you are feeling.

ineedhelp02, Hello and welcome to PC.

You are experiencing some very difficult things and at your age it is very hard to figure things out. I really want you to know that you matter in this world and you are not invisible. You have much worth but you just can't see it right now. You might be feeling the effects of depression. Is there anyone who could get you to a doctor? Is there a trusted adult who could arrange this for you? I really hope that you feel better and know that there are people here who you could talk with and get some great advice.

Is therapy or psychiatric illness particularly stigmatized in Malaysia?

Does your school have a staff psychologist or counselor whom you could consult discreetly without having to go through your parents?

i understand how you feel, i went to an all girl high school, a prestigious place, but i was the poor girl in the rich girl school. i would maybe tell or ask your parents if you can switch schools, they aren't all bad.you're going through puberty too which could be a reason you're depressed and tired too. i hope thats not too personal to say, but i remember how bad it was for me. your sisters are older than you too so they have had more time to get out there too. you're young and have your whole life ahead of you, maybe you might have to see a doc and t if possible.

Welcome dear. I understand being shy about talking to your parents about your problems. But they love you and surely would help you. How did it go that time that you emailed your mum? Were you more comfortable? Also if it's about a different topic now, you could try writing a message to her telling that you feel depressed and very shy, and you would like to find some help. A psychologist could help you. I'm sure that your parents would help you finding one. Or maybe there is one at your school.
Good luck, and if you want to talk feel free to message me

Yes! I am going to an all-girls school too.. The seniority there is no joke. I am trying to hint to them because i am not focused at all in class so i dont i would be able to score if i stay there :/ my sisters are only 17 and 15... Maybe if i wait longer my time would shine, right?

I cried and felt embaressed after sending my mom that e-mail.. I will try, hopefully it would work because for people here it does not make sense if youre 13 and stressed.. Ive met one in my school and had been accuse of seeking attention, but i dont think i will stop seeking for help... Thank you so much oh gosh im crying you guys are so kind
