Does any one else just get overwhelmed? Today I got up and got ready to go to the library. I wanted to get ahead on my homework before I attended class. On my way to class, I noticed this handicapped fellow needed help getting across the street. I went over to help him, an arrived to class a few minutes late because of it and found out there was a pop quiz. The professor made me start on question 4, missing 1-3 out of 10 questions total (I didn't even get to finish question 10). I feel like she pretty much wanted me to fail. Anyways, afterwords I chatted with her; The bottom line was that I going to have to extra credit if I wanted to do well. I already have such a busy schedule. Thinking about how I'm going to fit this in my schedule is giving me a headache. There are not enough hours in the day. I am grumpy, irritable and overhlemed. I am in need of a goodnight sleep and some headache medicine.

The Professor is Mean. You may want to report him to Administration. Someone needs to know what he is up to.

Maybe she has a crush on you...or does the thought make things worse?
If you are unsure ask what type of credit she has in mind. Then go from there. Don't let your emotions get ahead of you. |

This is a simple problem with a simple solution.
This is going to get a little technical but I'll make it simple enough for you to understand. Assume that your professor is a constant. Her mind will function like this, student does not show up on time, student will take penalties accordingly. The variable would be yourself and your time management. You had the opportunity to stop your work so you can show up to class on time. You had a random variable tossed at you which was the handicapped man who was in need of assistance. You decided to spend your resource of time to help out this man because you felt it was the right thing to do. Therefore this was a mismanagement of time in your part. But lets break this down even further. Why would the Professor be so stern to you? Ask yourself these questions, am I doing well in terms of grades? If not, then I should improve my grades so my professor sees potential in me so the professor would want to invest time and emotions for a relationship with a student. The professor deals with many students and may feel overwhelmed if she becomes too lenient with her students. Therefore, she has developed a code where she would be stern to her students. Now as for your feelings of being overwhelmed. It is natural as you did a good deed for a person in need. Some people may see this as a weakness but personally I think you did the right thing. There were many factors to be considered when dealing with a situation like this. I've taught before and it can be overwhelming as teachers tend to cross many liars opposed to a good honest student. It seems like time management and discipline is an important trait for your current situation. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I strongly recommend you to feel challenged to become a better person. I mean, your professor doesn't seem like she has an aspiring career and is miserable about it. But with the given information, I cannot determine anything as these are just guesses. I hope you can overcome this obstacle and don't be too hard on yourself. Nothing is worse than quitting. Take my word for it. |
