Hello. I've been doing a good job keeping myself from digging a pit of unhappiness, but I'm having one of those days which everyone seems to have turned against me. Suddenly, it seems like everyone I know is ignoring me or unhappy with me. I really don't want to relapse into my hole again. This feeling is probably brought on by coincidences and a general bad mood, and so, outlook. It feels like everyone dropped what they were doing, waved goodbye, and turned around and walked away. Does anyone else feel like this sometimes?

Hi Breezy Day,

I am sorry that you are currently feeling this way, I really am.

I would like to respond to your question - Does anybody feel like this sometimes?

Sure.

I'll raise my hand.

I certainly do.

It sucks when we think people are turning their backs on us.

Probably my best advice is try see if you can find some sort of activity you can do together with your friends to spend some time together and see if it alleviates the concept of your friends running away.

Hang in there.

And please let us know how it goes.

I do, and like you, I have to make a conscious effort not to let it get me down. I'm single and struggle with depression and health problems and well, let's just say that my social network could be larger.

I often find out later that on those days when my friends weren't around that they had a rotten day - the sale of their rental house fell through, they slipped on the ice in their driveway, their spouse had a addiction relapse, their dog was seriously ill.

Even though I'm not glad that they had those things happen to them, if I find out what was going on with them, it helps me to keep a more open mind about what might be the reason if they are not available.

Thank you. Some people did speak with me in friendly terms again and I've been feeling better. What helped most was getting caught up in my own life apart from people (my plans and goals) and that did help, but the people I know may have been caught up in other things, like jo thorne mentioned. I suppose it's nice to have plans that genuinely make you happy, and I realize that when I forget to live my life, I rely on other people more, who may have busy lives with their own goals and problems and won't always have time for me... But, they still didn't forget me. After all, other people are part of my life too.

I also feel like that sometimes! Usually for me the problem is related to hormones. Sometimes it isn't. I really hate that feeling and I am glad you are no longer feeling that way.

It's nice that we can recognize that it is just a feeling and not something real and permanent.
