I've finally solved the secret to my depression I think. People are always telling me I can't do things, I may as well not try, etc, then complain about me being a negative person. This I believe has led to the majority of my depression over the years, in being treated like I can't do anything. I also used to believe I was anti social because again everyone told me that was what I was. I am not shy, I'm actually very open, I just lack the confidence to go with what I want. It all boils down to how do I not let what people telling me I am, affect me anymore?

Well bravo to you! Shift your attention from "fear of failure" to "urge to learn", and you will become confident.

Thank you for posting this Fleury. I was told recently I don't have enough confidence in myself either and that it may be the reason why I have so many depressive setbacks.

There are many negative people out there just itching to put you down in order to feed their ego and ,paper over their own insecurities. These people are poison and should be ditched. Positive thoughts, positive actions, positive people is the way to go.

Ptang is dead right, they WANT you to feel bad.
Try this from assertiveness training: If anyone says a negative to you, instead of being silent just reply, "Yeah, you COULD be right",or "Yeah, possibly", or "Yeah,I can understand why you might think that". That last one is just gobbeldy gook, and means nothing, but puzzles the critic. The first2 are only PROBABILITIES,and again leaves critic puzzled and non-plussed .They COULD be right, but you know better! Respectfully, BLUEDOVE |

Learn about when you were growing up. Was that kind of thing said to you when you were growing up? It all gets imprinted on one at an early age. As you now know, those kind of remarks has nothing to do with you personally.
