I usually try to practice what I have learned about managing anger but the other day I really lost it. I was so upset I used language I don't usually use and really hurt myself in the process of being so angry. It is true anger is and can be dangerous to you and others. I have apologized but the after effects in my body and mind are still there. I am horrified that I could go so low. Most of the time I am a person who tries to be a kind , caring lady. No excuse, regardless of feeling or circumstance for such an uncontrolled response. It is harmful to all involved and of course does not help to really get your frustration or problem taken care of. How much better to take a time period to gather yourself and your thoughts and deal with whatever the problem is in a reasonable manner. I still feel really terrible inside and out. Now, I have to figure out a way to forgive myself and of course I still have to deal with the problems anyway.

Anger is a natural, instinctive and healthy emotion. It is the "fight" portion of fight/flight/freeze physiological survival mechanisms. The trick is learning how to use it in productive and healthy ways, how to let it help you and give you some much-needed 'oomph' and determination and courage in the right situations. But if a person is conditioned to fear their own anger and try to ignore or suppress it, it only causes more problems on down the line, because it is a natural, instinctive part of us.
