So I had never watched harry potter and i just watched all the movies. Now I feel sick and depressed.

I think I get so wrapped up in fantasy that when i come back to reality its so depressing.

My house is a disaster because I have not been doing anything but watch movies. I know I need to get out today and do something but I have no friends and I dont know what to do with myself.
I have been doing really well but this weekend has been rough. I think too the fact that I have a cold is not helping. I seem to get depressed when I'm sick.

I understand the let down feeling after being in a tv fantasy world for too long. It's really hard to get out of it.

I watched TV all day yesterday and it was the same. I came away feeling let down and upset because nothing got done. And feeling sick will certainly make it worse.

I always feel mega depressed just before a cold.

Sometimes movies can be uplifting and inspiring and energise you even in depression, books and music too.

Thanks for the support guys. I drove around around with my dog for a bit looking at the foliage. My head feels a bit clearer now. I'm going to try and straighten out my house a bit.

I think this latest funk I'm in also has to do with the fact I had a job interview last week. I feel like I did great on the interview but it stirred up all sorts of feelings of inadequacy. It was immediately after the interview that I got a sore throat and felt feverish too. :-(

It's interesting how being sick makes us depressed. When I'm sick regardless of the type I get super depressed and teary.

Made the mistake of watching Anne Frank last night (the black and white 1959 version), not a good movie when you are down and stressed. After work I need something with a happy ending. It was a great movie though.

Oh man thecrankyone, that's a mistake lol. I saw it when I was in school. Its not really a feel good movie. For me anything that deals with death, realtionships, parents, or/and family is really tough. The Harry potter movies arnt meant to be depressing but they talk about his parents. I literally had to pause it last night, go take a shower and cry, then come back. It's not the movie that's sad it just makes me think if my own family issues and it tares me up.

Oh another tough one is the subject of the passing of time. Like people getting older etc really does me in.

I watched a different version several years ago. I knew what I was getting into, but I was sucked in anyway. I was fine, except when they talked about people disappearing and when the Nazis broken down the door at the end.

Sad endings only bother me when they are true.

Tonight I go for comedy. Happy ending comedies usually help me feel a little better.

That's good. It's weird too when your sad you tend to watch sad things. When I'm feeling down I even google sad things. Like I did just now... i just googled sadness... lol why I do that idk. I should watch more comedies because i hardly laugh but I think today for me i just need to get away from the screen for a bit.

I tend to watch sad things, too, and I constantly struggle with depression. It feels comfortable to watch something that 'understands' how I feel. But yeah, doing so can get tricky.

i hate that feeling. manage to escape for a few hours and come crashing back down to earth.
that's why i have a problem with daydreaming too much! i just hate living in this world with a passion so drift away as often as i can.
worst feeling though to come crashing back down again, i definitely relate to what you're saying OP.

Yea when I was a kid they said I was a daydreamer too. I would just get lost in my imagination I guess to escape the fears and anxieties I had. I'm pretty sure I still do but I'm trying to not escape into my mind anymore. It's a real challenge. I try to focus myself on real goals and day dream about that. I think it's healthier... maybe??

I will admit, I'm often guilty of escaping into fantasy content such as movies, books, TV shows, anime, or video games to escape reality. To me, fantasy is much more pleasurable and ideal than reality could ever hope to be.

It's a good coping skill if used right.

I get depressed with a lot of things. It's either because the subject depresses me, or because I'm wasting time. Some things I can't take at all, and other things only in moderation. Often when I get that way I need some reality, like going outside.

i like comedies and find it very hard to watch serious shows. having a clod is the most awful feeling in the world, for me everything has to stop until i get better. please watch a Steve Martin movie, they are light and funny that is who i suggest.

Thanks guys. It seem like my achy sore body cold has transformed into a head cold but all-in-all I'm feeling much better and not so depressed :-D. The post-film-um depression seems to have passed too. Out of hogwarts and back to the real world lol

I will admit that the Harry Potter series holds an irreplaceable place in my heart. I first got into the series (both the books and the first movie) when I was about 8 and I found myself clinging to fantasy when I was so unhappy during reality due to how poorly I was treated as a child.

I have always wished (and still wish to this day) that I could go to a place like Hogwarts and escape reality to train as a wizard or something similar. I would give anything to have some kind of special abilities that could make people admire and respect me and would allow me to rise up against those who would dare hurt me and anybody that I care about.

Being a simple human sucks. I want more.

EXACTLY. It sounds silly. But I want to feel special and have the power to make the people who've hurt me go eat dirt. But that only happens in the movies. I think something like harry potter really hits on those feelings. I've read that it's common for people from abusive backgrounds to have fantasies as kids about some rescuer saving and fixing everything and seeing how special and important they are.

I've always been a fan of sci fi / fantasy. Escaping into another world is what helped me get thru much of what I've had to deal with in my life. I like many genre's but the ones that some would describe as out there are often my favorites.

I'm a huge Star Trek fan (old school, original/Next Gen only), Star Wars, HP and many other series. I also like things like Game of Thrones and Vikings. Make believe violence rarely bothers me, only violence such as Anne Frank that involves real people who actually lived.
