Today as son and I were driving to the gym we saw a kitten about three months old sitting in the middle of the road. The speed limit is thirty mph but most people exceed that and I was afraid the kitten would get hit by a car and I said maybe I should go back and get the kitten and take it home. Son said he had seen the kitten in that area before and thought it belonged to a neighbor. When I came back from taking my shower the kitten was dead. When I picked up son from work just now I told him about the kitten and he said he saw a truck coming around the corner as we passed by the kitten and he had the feeling that the truck was going to hit the kitten. Even if I could have turned around and went back for the kitten he thinks we would have been too late. I feel so sorry for the young one that nobody cared for it enough to keep it safe.

I agree with your son. I'm sorry it happened though and you had to see it. I want to pick up every one I see but the inn is full. That's assuming I ever find Ollie which I am losing hope on. I won't tell you not to feel bad but it wasn't your fault

As a cat lover myself I understand your guilt and I would probably feel the same in your shoes. But I agree that there wasn't anything you could have done and that unfortunately we can't save them all. I'm sorry you had to go through this upsetting experience.

Oh my, terrible experience for you...so sorry. My family and I once tried to rescue a puppy. My daughter ended up getting bitten and we went to the emergency room. The dog ran off. There probably wasn't a good chance that you could have saved this cat as it was most likely feral. Don't be too hard on yourself, you had the right thoughts, most people wouldn't have given the cats fate a second thought. Big hug.

Your post shows that you and your son have sensitive hearts. You even turned around when it was safe to do so, but it was to late.

Thank you, friends, for your support. I was driving to the post office today and saw another kitten appearing to be about three months old, probably a sibling of the first kitten. He was sitting beside the road in the same area where I had seen the first kitten. I said, oh please, kitten, stay out of the road. Returning from the post office I saw the second kitten dead in the road.

My emotions cannot handle more dead kittens. If I see another kitten in that area in or beside the road I will stop the car and grab the kitten before someone else runs it over. I had planned to get a cat anyway from the shelter but if a cat near me needs a safe and loving home, so be it.

God knows there are plenty of cats who need a good home. People are so irresponsible with pets. They're disposable to some. And to others its left up to nature to take its course and that means more kittens (and puppies) to be passed on to more irresponsible owners. I don't understand those people. I'd love to pick up and go cruise the PCH again before its too late but if I did that my 5 strays would become homeless again. I'd feel so guilty I wouldn't be able to enjoy myself.

It sounds like a feral kitten, it would probably run from you, if you got to close to it. I do not think there is much you could of done for them.
