I don't go anywhere for New Years Eve. I spend it at home. It's been like that for many many years.

But when I turn on these NYE shows on tv, they make you feel bad that you're not out there celebrating somewhere. They make it feel like you're the only one staying at home and the whole world is out celebrating.

Anyone else feel like this?

All the New Years kisses made me feel bad. I'm 19 and I've never been kissed.

I don't watch the NYE shows anymore, and I don't really go out either; too much battling with depression in the last few years to do much of anything. Mostly I just feel insecure and kinds of like there's something 'wrong' with me for not even wanting to go out in the first place. It's the social standard that we must all be overachieving extroverts but look how well that's worked out so far.

I would rather be here in the open desert than in that crowded noisy NY, for New Years.

I totally see this when I spend any holidays or my birthday alone. But I'd rather hide at home than go out by myself it the choice comes to these two options. I would just feel more alone if I'm out in the open and see a whole bunch of people celebrating with friends.

I end up feeling like a loser and writing really long journal entries about how I feel like such a loser.

It's carefully scripted. I feel this way too. Like these fake plastic people on tv are like, oh great it's a new year. And they're kissing and such. And I'm like, thanks that sets an expectation for me that I can't live up to. Great way to bring in a new year. Heck, I wish we didn't have calendars or holidays. Would do away with a lot of the weirdness socially.

Even people at work are like, oh what did you do? Like New Year's Eve is a competition.

Maybe this will make you feel better about not being at the ball drop in Times Square! Well yanno how it's so jam packed with people? Of course there aren't enough restrooms, so many party goers are wearing adult diapers! At the end of the night the city trash cans in the area are overflowing with depends. Yes, thousands upon thousands of poopy pants diaper wearers. All in the name of partying in Times Square on New Year's Eve to see the ball drop.

I'm really not trying to discount your feelings. I don't go out on NYE either. I don't have any social get togethers with friends. It does stink. I just thought I could make you laugh, that's all.
