Hi there. I hope this is the right forum for this. I suffer depression with bouts of anxiety and the occasional panic attack thrown in to keep it interesting.
I was wondering, when emotions overwhelm you, do you have a safe place? I live with my two teenage boys, who both have ADHD, and my partner, who is away for work for two weeks at a time, then home for a week.
When I am really overwhelmed, I hide in a wardrobe. In this house we have a walk in robe with a sliding mirrored door, so there's lots of room and it's quite comfortable. In previous houses, I have crammed myself in to smaller spaces. I like the darkness, the privacy, and the fact that no one will come across me suddenly. My boys have never found me in there, but my partner has. Sometimes he will try to talk to me, but if I tell him to leave me alone, he will.
Does anyone else do something like this? Does it help?

Hello Ceridwen18: PC is pretty-much the Skeezyks' safe place... plus doing walking meditation in the middle of the night... oh... & I suppose the bathroom...
Thanks for this!

In my comforter. It is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comforter, my favorite thing in the world. It keeps me warm and safe, so I hide in it when I'm scared and also with my TMNT stuffed doll Leonardo.

My safe place has always been my home. I can stay there for days. The whole house is a "safezone" I am pretty thankful for that.

My room which I manage to keep it dark and cold is my safe place, but when I get extremely insecure I'll hide under my big computer desk. That desk was belong to my late father, I feel like he is there with me when I am hiding under it.

I don't have an indoors safe place. I like to find a place in the woods or outdoors where I can't see or hear anyone. It can be a hidden clump of trees in a park or a deserted road. Just me and the sky and trees.

I made a tiny bedroom for myself with no windows and 3 locks on the door, and i use a comfort item to help. It's hit and miss though.

My house is my safe place. I just lost my beautiful watch dog, so I have to refire the alarm system, or I don't sleep well. "The house protects the dreamer".

The shower. Don't want my kids finding me. But...I've been reading a book called the power of now. It's changed my way of thinking. A work in progress of course. But I also suffer from anxiety and depression. It's the hamster wheel of negative thought that kills me. But this book help put things into perspective a bit. The goal is too find peace in ur mind. Quietness instead of constant chatter. Check it out if it sounds like u :-)

I get panic attacks. When I'm at college, I go to the facilities office during an attack. The office of special services set that up for me, which was nice and it helps. I'm interesting because I don't like to be alone when I have a panic attack. But when I'm burnt out I like to be alone in my room.

Any closet floor, curled up in a ball in the corner door shut tight, hands wrapped around headand knees rocking back and forth preferably covered by a blanket... used to have lots of "safe nouns"...all are gone now...but somewhere there is always a closet to find.
