I don't know if CBT works with severe anxiety.

I took benzodiazepines my entire adult life until three years ago when my present health care provider felt it was best not to have them.

Well, I agreed, kind of. I know people on here talk about how they would love to come off benzodiazepines.

But truthfully when I get big hits of anxiety now it takes every fiber of my being to work at controlling it.

It may actually be true that coming off benzoes causes increased anxiety.

I tried drinking alcohol this week but frankly I think it made things worse.

It really sucks because today the anxiety has parked its big fat butt in my space and is making itself at home. Maybe it would be helpful if I pictured the anxiety as a big fat slobbery bully with bug like features.
