Hi Sinking,
I am happy to see that you got to sit with your therapist and talk things out and you are feeling validated and relieved. I can relate to struggling and feeling awful and yet not really understanding the "why". In your first post you did mention a lot of different things that are going on with your life and all of these things were stressing you. Often, what that "feeling" you can't really pinpoint, is simply "feeling" overwhelmed and uncertain. Having a mother that is smothering can add to that, especially if this mother tends to say, "don't feel that way or don't let that bother you". A mother who hovers and can tell her child not to "feel" bad, can be a burden when what someone really needs is a mother who can just sit with you, listen and allow you to feel whatever you feel and "validate". When we make that effort to be out on our own, it's scary. Often when that happens if someone is younger is they "miss" home because that is the place they felt safe or that was familiar, something they knew how to function in verses being out on one's own where this is something very new. So, it's "normal" to "feel" fearful and overwhelmed. Having that validated is important, because we FEEL what we FEEL and that is part of being human, it doesn't help if someone we reach out to tells us not to feel or minimizes our feelings. ![]() |
