I'm just so sad today...not necessarily depressed but sad to the point of crying. I'm dealing with a few things that are breaking my heart. What do you do when you're sad and discouraged?

Sorry to hear that you are struggling: There are a few things I tend to do during sad/blah days:

1. Take a nap (sometimes I truly need one and other times I just sleep to pass the time. It's not the best coping mechanism but it's hard to break that habit!)

2. Exercise. I can safely say that 100% of the time that I exercise, I always feel AT LEAST a bit better than before, oftentimes I feel a significant mood improvement. Physical activity is a natural anti-depressant, good for the body and mind. I highly recommend it.

3. Watch TV or Youtube.

4. Play computer games like WoW, The Sims 3 or 4, or Stardew Valley.

5. Do some chores around the house.

Sometimes I enjoy colouring or listening to music as well. Perhaps there are some activities you personally enjoy that could help to lift your sadness? I hope you feel better soon.

I very much second the exercise! It can really lift the fog. Also try to find a way to have a good laugh. Watch a comedy, look at funny cat videos, talk to a friend that tends to be uplifting, if you have one.

I come here when I am sad. Maybe not a great way to handle it, because stories here tend to reinforce the sad...

When I am feeling sad.....I cry......especially if you have known reasons why you are sad...crying is a gift....in recent years....it was discovered....there is a connection in the brain between tear ducts...and the process of tears...that your brain releases a natural brain functioned antidepressant.....I thought too it was very interesting that women had more of those connections in the brain...than men....why women cry more than men....it is a natural gift of our brains for us....may not always understand what I am feeling....yet I do not try to turn them away....especially tears.....I will cry a river of tears....tears are a blessing.....there is something I have learned too.....if I allow myself the tears....and cry them freely....at one point...they stop and turn to laughter....at one point you will burst into laughter....tears are healing....your brain is even wired to feel better after you cry....
