Part of why I decided to join pc, is because I have difficulty in coping with my own emotions. Consequently, I can't say I'm good at relationships, of any nature (other than just small talk) I'm unsure, but don't think I'm alone in this? Inability to interact well, on any meaningful level? Sooo, why I'm posting, is, I'm in the process of moving. I'm glad, it's a good thing, and I believe the decisions a fab one, only...how can I be liked, if I don't move beyond 'basic connections' and, for the main part, I wish to keep myself to myself? How is this best achieved?

Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't wish to be disliked. I would like people to believe I'm a decent person (I try to be mainly) but, it's the fact I'm a very solitary person. I want friends, therefore, I know I have to be amenable. How do I make/keep friendships, whilst (politely) making it clear, I also need a substantial amount of solitude....as I'm not a people person. Thanks

I think perhaps you just have to find people similar to you in that regard - friendly, but not too expansive.

There is nothing wrong with needing solitude. It can be very healthy and healing. If a potential or current friend has a problem with this, maybe it’s not a good match for you. I certainly don’t need to be connected every minute of every day with friends. That would drive me up the wall.

If your friends want to hang out and you'd rather spend time alone, simply let them know. If they're friends who are good for you, they'll understand and let you be.
