It takes barely anything to set me off. Snide comments, dropping stuff, losing in a video game - and I'm pissed for the next hour. I have no idea how I'm supposed to deal with this. I've been depressed for a very long time and I've done nothing about it, and I think it's just the hopelessness getting to me, but what the hell am I supposed to do? I never hurt anyone or anything when I'm angry but I think about it. It's really starting to worry me.

I don’t see a therapist. I’m 17, and I don’t know if I can look my parents in the eye and explain why I need therapy. The plan is sort of to get a job soon so I can pay for it myself, but I have no idea when that might be.

Don't suffer any longer, go to the doctor now and describe what is happening. I have a theory that the sooner depression is treated, the better.

Unless you’re in some sort of abusive or narcissistic household, it is best to tell your parents about this. They can get you the help you need, and they’ll probably be grateful you told them. It will help them to understand you better and know where you’re coming from.
Also, it will give you some practice in opening up to others about your struggles. You’ll need this skill when you see your therapist. Wishing you all the best ![]() |
