Graduating next semester with a B.S. degree, with a so-called "worthless degree". I am terrified. I don't know what to do with my life. I know my degree isn't that marketable. I don't have friends. My brother and my cousin both are nurse's, and damn, I am so envious because they have great salary/benefits, and travel, SOs, etc. All of my so-called "friends" from H.S. have great lucrative careers, and I feel incredibly behind. Just a vent

You can use your BS degree to further your education and become a nurse if that’s what you want. My husband had BS first and then added nursing degree to it. Sure it’s more schooling but if you want to be a nurse you certainly can go for it

Dont think you have a worthless degree. I have an Eng Lit degree and have been on disability. I'd like to go back to school. Look at your degree as a stepping stone. My BF graduated with a fine arts/ communications degree. He went for his masters and is a tenured professor in NYC and writes plays now.

Plenty of people on Wall Street and at big companies with English and History degrees. Good companies hire the person, not the degree.

I can relate, @NeedHelp104! That is one of my biggest fears as well!

I felt very similarly after I graduated from undergrad with a degree in French. But I went on to get a Master's and now have a pretty good job. I agree with Mickey. Don't compare yourself to others. You will find your own way.

I am not going to lie..for about my first 10 years after graduation I struggled to get decent work. But here is something strange... when you reach a certain age, people just impute knowledge to you and want to pay you more. You don't have to be a success from day one.
If I were to do it all again, when I graduated from college I would have travelled AND then, started my own business. There is nothing to lose when you first graduate. |
