laugh at things that really arn't funny, and actually quite the oppositte?

how do you react afterwards

it makes me feel so insensitive after I've done it, but I can't help it. it just makes me laugh for some reason

a lot of times too, I know I've done it

it's not like a trigger that sets it off and I don't know about it

sometimes if I'm feelig mannic, it is. but sometimes, (most of the time), it's like I did it on purpose

but I really don't want too.. after I've looked back on what I've laughed at I'm like wow. why did I laugh at that. it's not funny at all

I’ve done it, felt insensitive and horrible afterwards sometimes too, especially if someone was hurt (never seen anyone hurt seriously, though).

Yes.

When the challenger blew up, at the news, I burst into laugher. I did really think it was funny... in a way. Because there had been so much hype and right from the start I thought it was a bad idea.

I told everyone later I thought they were joking.

But I knew they weren't because I had been listening to the audio on the radio and it did seem something had happened.

have you found any methods, or anything that stops you from doing it, or at least making it feel less insensitive

I am glad I am not the only one who does this.

does anything help you to either not do it, or to make it feel less insensitive?

I laughed when Natasha Richardson died (mom from The Parent Trap) I just cracked up laughing. I also smile when I talk and it hasn’t been a problem lately because of the face masks but it bothers me because I really can’t help it and I don’t mean anything by it but its just how my face works. But I feel like people find me creepy.

What I had to do in that case was think of something horribly sad, in that case, my mind went to "dead puppies" to stop laughing.

I know why wasn't it sad that all these people died in such a horrible way? I think my mind just wasn't able to comprehend it.

It doesn't always happen but I do worry about my reaction.

This was a huuuuge problem for me. I finally figured, its how i was raised. I was raised without empathy, i had no empathy for others. Thru my last t, i feel i finally gained some empathy. Got some put in my empathy bucket so i can now draw from it. But its like one of those buckets with two sides - half of it is still dry.

I've done that when I was nervous. I don't know if there's anything that helps spontaneous laughter like that. You could just apologize, or you could say that you're neurodivergent without explaining any mental issues at all. People will tend to think what they want to think anyway.

To be honest it happens rarely in the first place for me, but there’s also the fact that often when people laugh at bad things happening, it’s apparently because of shock. Doesn’t seem intuitive to connect shock with humour, but it makes sense when you dig into it.
I think if you were genuinely amused you wouldn’t feel insensitive or even know that you shouldn’t really have laughed. Would it be helpful to think about what you actually found funny about these things?
Like, I can see why the Challenger example would be funny on one level even though it was tragic for so many people, because a lot of things that get hyped up turn out to be flops in some way. The example I see most of is new music stars - people you’ve probably never heard of getting hyped up in commercials, and that’s usually the only time you’re aware they exist.
Thanks for this!
