I think I want to try cognitive therapy. I've been doing some reading about it and it seems like something that might help me. I know a lot of my problems stem from negative thinking that comes so automatically to me that I can't help it -- or even recognize when I'm doing it. I also know that just reading about it isn't going to help -- I don't do well with any form of therapy or self-help on my own, I need a professional to help me with it. But I'm a little apprehensive. Has anyone tried this? I know that the stats show that cognitive therapy is really helpful for people with depression but I wondered if anyone here can give me an idea of what I'd be getting myself into. My only experience with therapy so far is with my school counsellor, who I'll be losing as soon as the school year is over and I go home anyway. It's been remarkably helpful talking to her, but I'm starting to wonder if there might be other approaches that could help me not only kick the depression, but get my life back in gear as well.

Any thoughts?

My tdoc uses CBT pretty regularly. He's actually rather eclectic in his strategies, but we frequently come back to CBT techniques. It has been very helpful, and my thinking strategies are slowly improving which makes me a much more stable person.
Thanks for this!
