I was invited to a meeting today for the class reunion committee. It has been 40 years since I have seen most of these people. I am scared! I do not know what has me scared but it is a weird feeling, part of me wants to go and part is saying to stay home.
In high school I was nothing, just another weakling to shove into a locker. Now the top students in the class asked me to come to the meeting? There will only be a dozen people there. So the number of people won't bother me, used to be a scout master so spoke in front of large crowds a lot. I can not figure out why I am suddenly scared.
Again, just ranting here. Feel free to ignore the old guy.

It may have been 40 years since you've seen these people, but often times our feelings and memories of how we were treated are as fresh as if they just occurred. If it makes you uncomfortable then don't go, but sometimes by facing our fears we can overcome them. Good Luck

Whoever you were in high school is apparently still "haunting" you. But you are not that person now and the others aren't who they were either. I bet those other alums have been knocked around quite a bit over the years and all of you should have plenty to talk about.

Yes, your message hit home. I am supposed to attend my high school reunion in a couple of months. The last one I attended, the "popular" people were just as stuck up as they were in high school and the rest of the population were just as they were, as well. I thought it was hilarious to see the football players and cheerleaders sitting together again on their third and fourth marriages. Needless to say, my comfort level was so low that I have decided to give myself permission not to attend the reunion this summer. I think you will make the best decision for yourself. Ask yourself why you would want to go. Are there a lot of people who you haven't seen and want to see???

I went to the meeting. Kind of slow at first, no one recognized anyone else. Me, a total nothing in high school having lunch with the class president and the Varsity Cheerleaders. It was funny. Again I was the odd man out, all the rest are teachers, I am not. The scaredness went away and it went ok, (but I think they are a bunch of alcoholics). I will be meeting with them some more and setting things up for this fall. 40 years later a lot has changed. They got old.
