Does anyone have a problem with their memory or I am just losing my mind?
One of my biggest problems with my depression has been memory lose. This really does drive me nuts. I can learn something new today and forget it tomorrow. I can watch a movie and miss a lot of it. I mean I can watch it again like I have only seen the previews. I can drive down the road for miles and wonder "what did I just see"? And I can't remember. If I have an appointment I have to have a reminder call to make the appointment. I can drive to the store for one item and forget what I wanted. I can get up and know what I want until I get to the other room or where ever and forget why I am there. I can say something and forget that I said it. I have moved and have been to the post office 7 or 8 times. But the last time I tried to go to the post office I couldn't, for the life of me, remember where it was. I lose track of days and times. I do know that my depression keeps my mind spinning all the time. Is my mind keeping me from concentrating enough to remember? It's like thoughts are covering up what I am wanting to do or see. But yet I can't remember most of my thoughts. ![]() |

I am having the same problems with memory, it feels very strange and it makes me doubt my own sanity. Before I got off the sleeping pills I was taking, I blamed it on them but now that it has been more than a month, it cannot be that and I have big memory losses, I have read that depression can cause memory loss. I cannot wait to see a psychiatrist, maybe he has the answer.
You are not alone and maybe you should talk to your doctor about that. I hope this helps. |

I have next to no memory left whatsoever. I can be having a conversation with someone and midway through a sentence completely forget what I was talking about; my parents have to repeat the things they want me to do over and over, and even then I'm not guaranteed to remember. I was cleaning one of the villas where I work yesterday, stepped out onto the road, and could not remember -- 30 seconds later! -- which one I'd been in. Some people think it's funny or cute that I'm so frazzled and I go along like it's a joke or one of my quirks, but it's definitely the depression. I think it just keeps me so distracted all the time that I can't process much else.

Oh yes, 25 years and counting. Actually the 25 years was after I had ECT treatments so that doesn't really count. Someday I'll write down how the frog of little brain was born.
Got myself some ice cream for dessert before going to bed. Walk into the kitchen the next morning and found the rest of the ice cream melted all over the counter. Does that count? Or how about going to the post office to mail a package. Parked the car and reached for the package......you guessed it. Back at the house sitting on the table where I had left it the night before. Then there are conversations you have with friends and family and right in the middle.....right again....thought is completely gone. Of couse there are all the "over the hill" experiences like walking into a room and forgetting why you went there. I don't count those otherwise I would be completely nuts! My son says "Mom just write everything down". OK So now where did I put the list? I know I'm making light of a very annoying situation. But if I don't then I sit here in tears. It sometimes is the result of the meds you are taking or the combo of drugs. Mention you situation with your doc. If the doc can't come up with an answer then its back to the kleenex box. Good Luck. I hope you find an answer.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have a story for you. I had two pet rabbits in the back yard. I live on the second floor of an appartment building. I went out the back door and down the steps, when I got to the bottom of the steps I could not remember why I was there so I went back up. When I got to the top of the steps I would remember again. I did this about 6 times - up and down. When I here a voice - what are you doing?? The guy from the appartment below me was watching me go up and down these steps. I looked at him and thought for a few seconds. Ahh!!! I am trying to feed my rabbits. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I agree that depression can cause memory problems. So can any number of medications... After stopping some of these meds, it's quite possible that the memory difficulties will ease, but it takes time especially if we've been on them for any length of time. In rare cases, the memory problems do not get better. One thing that I've found helpful for some activities is to put a note where I will see it. It helps with appts, other things that are a day or two away. Your pdoc can also prescribe medication to help you with this...my mother was on it and I saw great improvement. She was greatly relieved when she responded so well. Perhaps this is something you can ask your pdoc. Also, when was the last time you had a complete blood panel done? There are physical reasons for memory problems, also. Thyroid levels and other hormone levels are two of the culprits... Best wishes, Catherin

Same here. Mostly short-term memory problems.. some pieces just fall out. Like I intend to do something but completely forget about it in the process. This also often happens here while posting. I open the reply window and can't remember what was the thread about.
I don't think we are going insane or anything like that.. just experiencing certain temporary side effects.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I can't remember what I was going to say. lol No seriously I have that alot also . The other day I forgot I had a Psychs appointment because I couldn't remember what day it was. The only thing changes with the days is the weather. I open the fridge and stare in a daze . What did I come here for , was it that apple, milk, chicken ? And other times I'm so involved with my racing thoughts I'll try to cook something in the fridge that was intended for the microwave. You're right it feels like your losing your mind. Take Care of You For Me ![]()
