Okay, I admit to having two full glasses with dinner last night and waking with some real depression. Does anyone have experience with the wine and the ensuing depression.

Thanks much-

Mmm...wine. Seriously, it depends on the individual. Alcohol is a depressant, so I've been told to no end, but I find it relaxing and it can even lead to much mirthful silliness in my case. However, the blackouts from my excessive drinking just aren't worth it. I top out at 1 drink per night these days. Feel too tired on anything more than that, and don't feel quite right the next morning. So, if you like wine, try sipping one glass more slowly. Or if you can part with it, try something with less concentration of alcohol for the same quantity of drink.

wine is good at bringing ugly stuff that is burried somewhere deep back to surface, and the stuff can set off a depression. This is the way it works for me.

I have heard it can trigger cycling in the bipolar set, and cause plain vanilla depression.

I don't drink that often, but I don't think it really affects my overall stability. It does make me more self confident and social, but that wears off with the booze and then I go back to the way I was before I drank anything.

All I know is that alcohol can interact negatively with meds.

If you're not on meds- I don't think so.
Atleast for me I don't get more depressed then I already am if I have alcohol. I had some mango margarita's at home last night. I'm upset at myself and real depressed but not over having the margarita's.

I think it depends on the person. When I was in the hospital the pdoc made me swear to not have any alcohol (including NyQuil). Though I wasn't drinking anything before that so I don't know why exactly that restriction at that time. Though she never really set a time frame for how long.
