I saw my doctor on Friday and she took me off lexapro and switched me to Cymbalta. It's only been less than a week but I haven't noticed a difference yet. I was wondering if anyone else is taking cymbalta and how it works for them and if they've experienced any bad side affects. Thanks.

Edited: Sorry I meant to post this in the drug question forum. I can't figure out how to delete a post.

Hey there!!

I am on Cymbalta and most of the SSRI's and SNRI's take about 2-3 weeks to start working so give it some time and hopefully you will start noticing some changes in another week or two. If not...try not to get discouraged!!! Medications are trial and error and some times you have to try a few before you find the one that's going to work best for you.

Keep posting...we're here for you!!

Hi,

I was on Cymbalta for about 3 years and it worked okay than when I got really stressed, it pooped out...but it did fine for me. I don't recall side effects or how long it took to start in again. I was on Lexapro also before my family practice doc swittched me. Before that I was on Zoloft. Now I'm on Pexeva (basiclly Paxil) and it is working great.

BUT, Just Tuesday I learned something about Cymbalta you may want to consider and ask your doctor about. I was just diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD or chronic renal failure). I don't know how old you are, but I'm most likely older than you so it may not be an issue.

I did notice in your profile that you suffer from anorxia. Cymbalta is clearned out of the body with your kidneys, where all the other antidepressants , they are cleared out with the liver, which is good for your kidneys. My pdoc just made me aware of that at my medication check up on Tuesday when I told him I had recently been diagnosised with CKD.

So, I believe with anorxia, you are more likely to do damage to your organs. Please check this out with the doctor who manages your meds. If you have had any issues with any organ damage, you need to make them aware

Keep in touch, and let us know how you are doing with your new medication changes.

I am actually taking both right now. 20mg of Lexapro and 60mg of Cymbalta. I have had no side effects other than thirsty, which could be from any of my meds. Good luck.
