I thought a lighthearted thread would be a good thing.

I have my avatar, which has been how I felt for decades. Today I don't know that I feel quite that desperate anymore, but it still is how I have defined myself for so long that it just felt right.

Then their is the name I use in the forum, 'bigcasper.'

My son has a very large pure white long-haired cat. I cat-sat for two years while my son was in his second enlistment in the Army and was in Iraq for 15 months.

Casper is a unique cat...he "talks" and is smart as a whip! Poor guy has ridden in cargo twice now and has survived the trauma quite well. So, he was one of the first thing that came to mind when I was searching my head for a name I don't use on any other forums I frequent...which are all neurology forums.

What is the meaning behind your avatar and/or forum name? Do you have a story behind either of them?

Well I change my avatar sometimes(4 times so far), so I don't personally identify with my avatar or name because that's really my name. But I answer questions regularly in the Q&A section and when registering it wouldn't accept lynn P. so I typed the first thing that popped in my mind, which was Bella(my dog) and she's cutie and that's how 'bellacutie' came to be.

My avatar took awhile as I didn't know what to use. I decide on a wild life picture that I had taken because nature seems to be so peaceful. My name is depressalaskan because that is how I feel.
Good post - got my mind thinking - hugs for your day.

I must confess (this probably bears witness to the state of what's left of my faculties) the first couple of times I saw your name, I read it, "You Pits Me." Just thought it some regionalism. I finally caught on, though: "Yup, it's me."

Okay, so where is everyone else?

Some of the avatars members use are quite fun. And the names some create are cute.

I thought this thread might get some fun going??

My avatar is the sea turtle because I have loved turtles/tortoises since I was 5. Someday I want a sea turtle tattoo. I have a collection of all things turtle/tortoise.

My screen name is Amazonmom because I am over 6 feet tall...Hence the Amazon. I was a new mom when I signed up so it was Amazonmom.

The avatar that I settled on is one of my paintings that evoked the emotional mess/passion/explosion that I feel a lot of the time. I made it in 2007. The name was because, well, I think about everything way too much and I always have. I started trying to figure out the meaning of life at age 5 or 6 and was a full blown existentialist by age 7. I was sitting on the playground staring out the chain link fence beyond my little world, knowing it was all out there and I was a prisoner to family, religion, state, and society...that everything was planned in advance for us, and that we were going to die anyway, so why not do what we wanted to with our little allotment of time. I still stand by that thought. And 22 was the number on the jersey of my favorite baseball player in high school...Brett Butler...Go Dodgers!

I have always loved the Care Bears, and this was one of the avatar choices that I was able to select from when I joined PC.

I love the sweetness of the Care Bears, as well as their caring/compassion and the lessons that they teach. I actually painted our Nursery blue and drew Care Bear scenes on the walls, way back when we first started on our infertility/adoption journey. They gave me hope and a smile when I needed it most.

As for my name, that's what I've been trying to do throughout my struggles with depression, infertility and adoption...and life in general

Thanks for starting this thread, it's cool to learn about each other in such a fun way!

Humor is one of the things that allows me a relative grasp on sanity & that's reflected in my user name (which was borrowed from a severely depressed android in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy stories) & my avatar (which simply amused me, since it appears to be a dog/wolf playing leapfrog over some sheep). Nothing particularly deep, inspiring or cerebral in my selections here!

I just love chihauhuas, hence my avatar and my name is what I would have called a daughter if I'd had one.

I saw the bear when I first signed up and it seemed to fit the way I feel: can't quite get up on my feet, but don't want to stop. The name is from one of the first science-fiction short stories I ever read "The Game of Rat and Dragon" @ a feline/human security team working in interstellar space. The cats see the monsters as rats; the humans as dragons...probably TMI but.....

fun thread and a great idea!

My avatar changes based on where I am at the moment, Right now my avatar is red boots, why, honestly it's because I want a pair of red boots , and I like this photo I found it browsing around online and loved the angle it also makes me think of travelling and making changes, sort of being independent and strong.

As for my name, birds are huge symbols for me, sparrows bring a smile to my face every time I see them, they are so feisty and full of life. I use to have a sparrow pendent I wore, but I left it at my grandmother's grave in honor of her memory. Silver came from there is a silver lining in every cloud, sometimes you just have to look harder to find it

My avatar just kinda fit how I felt when I was looking through them.

The name however was the nickname for one of my horses that I actually got to name. Although, at the time years ago, my parents were not to keen on the 2 for 1 deal on the horse I bought who was pregnant at the time, but they overcame that.

Forum name first:
Years ago a friend in another forum sent me this link. I didn't know anything about the Tarot at the time but I loved Joan Bunning's tour of it and started occasionally using the Fool as my identity at sites where I'd register. By the time I got here, there wasn't any question I was going to use it if it was available.

When I was picking my avatar I was still a newbie here so I couldn't upload my own and had to pick one of the stock ones. I almost went for the grumpy-persian-kitten one
Avatars and Forum Names
but since then I've noticed at least two other people using it. No one else seems to have wanted cat-with-bug-on-nose.

I've thought of using the Fool
Avatars and Forum Names
as my avatar too, but I'm kind of used to the cat and I think the Fool would feel kind of formal by comparison. I'd want to flip the Fool pic left to right if I used him, so he wouldn't be walking away from my posts.
Thanks for this!
