Hey,

I have bipolar disorder but get depressed ALOt and everytime I go to the doctor my pupils are usually dialted. Every one including my doctor and my mom thinks that I am on massive drugs when really I'm not on amy meds and I never do drugs. I hate this becasue everyone thinks that I'am lying to them when really I am not. I asked my doctor if it is becasue of my bipolar disorder and he said no. I went online and every one who thinks that they are experts on Yahoo Answers and other sites like those say that I am lying. Its really irritating. does anyone here have bipolar disorder or depression and get dialated pupils ever? I know it sounds crazy but yeah, its irritating. In highschool my teachers thought I was high and stuff.

I was just wondering why this happens and if it happens to anyone else.

Thanks'

Hey RomanJames,
When I very first start having a panic attack and during my attack, my eyes dialate so much that you can't hardley see the brown in them. It looks like I'm higher than a kite. My doctor says it's a normal response to fear. Just like a person's eyes will dialate when they are aroused they willl dialate with a panic attack. I don't know if oyu have alot of anxiety or not, but if oyu do that could be the reason for the dialation.

Increased natural adrenaline (naturally found in your body) can cause this. Are they both equal?

I don't have any kind of disorder, and neither does my brother, but we often have very dilated pupils. Sometimes people comment on it, but fortunately no-one makes a big deal of it. Even my eye doctor last time I was there remarked on how he didn't need to use drops to dilate my pupils that day since they were already large. But he didn't think anything of it.
I don't know what to tell you about how to get the people in your life to calm down...but at least you know now that there are people who just have dilated pupils, for no particular reason!
Thanks for this!

????? - Mydriasis: Excerpt from Handbook of Signs & Symptoms (Third Edition)

Could be a source from which to launch further investigations...?
