went to my first live group and found it to be both confusing and inspiring. Question, please share with me your 1st time at group. I want to compare.

Group experience for me was educational because I met people who had illnesses I don't have and I learned about the symptoms they deal with. It was refreshing to hear them talk openly and to have support given when I talked about myself. The discouraging part is that our groups are limited timewise and we are only allowed three minutes or so to share and you only get started when you have to stop. It's not fully therapeutic that way.

My first group session left me pessimistic. But the next six months were to prove me wrong. I received peer validation of my feelings and I was surprised to find that I could actually say things that were helpful to other people. Sometimes I got painfully honest feedback on how I came across to others and though this was difficult to hear it was incredibly valuable. Group therapy did not cure my depression, but it was a really important experience in my growth as an adult human being. Good luck!
