I am so demoralized this afternoon. I met with my psych tester and he showed me the part of my brain that has a “glitch” in it. It makes thoughts go round and round. It has race cars (thoughts) on the track and usually stuff is added or replace with different race cars. And he said it could be acute or chronic and he doesn’t know what my kind is.
Why do I have this “glitch”????? It makes me feel sad and angry. And I feel helpless that it is in my brain. I feel betrayed my own mind.

Hi Berries,
I'm wondering - did you actually have a CAT Scan that showed up some abnormality or are they presuming this is what's wrong. For example experts now know that people like Charles Manson (please know I'm not comparing him to you LOL) actually have a defect which they can see on the cat scan. The good news is, the brain is an AMAZING organ. it's widely known that we don't even use all of our brains capacity. When people suffer strokes or brain damage - the brain can actually make NEW connections and relearn what was lost. It's good for the doctors to try to explain why you're feeling this way - but there's also a down side as well because it can make the patient feel like they have no control - like you're feeling. Please let me know if this is just a presumption or if they actually saw this on cat scan - I'm very interested to understand. Human beings are amazing in their ability to overcome great odds. Don't let this discourage you because, as we speak the brain is making new connections. One of the best way to make new connections is playing brain games and also vigorous exercise. I don't want this new theory the doctors have, make you feel discouraged about the future. ![]()

Wow, Berries. You can now (figuratively) put your finger on an exact spot in your brain where there's a "glitch" behind some (all?) of your problems. It's fascinating and discouraging at the same time.
Did your doctors discuss with you how such "glitches" happen? Depressive disorders are still somewhat shrouded in scientific mystery; they may not yet be sure. Well, the next time someone tells you, "It's in your head," you can reply, "Yes, it's in the X region of the Y lobe/hemisphere just to the right/left/top/bottom of the blah blah sulci/gyri...." I'd like to see their expression then. Pardon my digression. Berries, I cannot answer for your brain's betrayal, but I can accept you just the way you are. ![]() ![]()

I'm sorry that you are so upset. It is annoying when our bodies betray us. I wish you the best with integrating this information. I don't see you any differently with or without it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

No he didn't tell me how it happened. But that it has probably always been there, but trauma made it much worse. Quote:

A brain defect should be thought of in a similar way to any other defect, such as a malfunctioning heart valve. There is no reason to devalue yourself because of a physical problem. It is a challenge to be faced, like any other.

In your reply you mentioned you have OCD. I saw on Good Morning America a few months a go this doctor who has a new book on OCD. Along with him on the show was a famous football player who has OCD. He had it very bad to where he had to count to 1,500 before doing any task - which meant he didn't do much in his day. Well he's a fully functioning person now that he's on the right meds and receiving the appropriate therapy. The name of the book is 'My Life In Rewind' by Edward Zines and Michael Jenike. Maybe you can learn something new from this book?
