Hey all, I'm new here... the main reason that I joined is that I have been on Citalopram (which is the generic form of Celexa) for four days now and the side effects are killing me. I mean, I can't think clearly, I'm sick to my stomach, dizzy, head achy, and really spacey. Has anyone else taken this stuff? Did you shove through the side effects? Does it get better? If it get's better, I guess I'll stick with it, but if it doesn't I would like to know now and just be done with it.

Hello & Welcome, SheilaJane! I'm currently taking Citalopram along with other meds. I tolerate it well but whatever positive effects it has on me are minor. Psychotropic medications tend to be very individual in their primary and side effects; what works for one person may be intolerable for another.
You might call your prescribing doctor and tell them exactly what you're experiencing. They may encourage you to continue or, depending on their knowledge of you and the severity of the side effects, may decide to cease the Citalopram gradually or all at once, possibly substituting something else (I'm assuming you're new to meds; if not - you know the drill already). The important thing is to work with your doctor and be honest about what you're experiencing. The doctor works for you - it's not your job to please them with misleading reports of progress. Wishing you comfortable improvement! ![]()

i was on celexa for the first year-year and ahalf of medication. the side effects i experienced were a lack of concentration, uber forgetfulness and lots of yawning. they did pass though, as i recall after about the first week.
before i switched medication i found i was having a very low sex drive which is not normal for me and tends to be a side effect of anti-depressants, however it could have also been the relationship i was in so i can't say for sure whether it was the meds doing that or not. keep pushing on! i remember being sooo happy about a month after i started taking them because i finally felt more like my usual self. ![]()

I was for a small bit of time - a few months. I didn't like the spaciness and it didn't help me personally.
I would talk to your doctor about it =)
