She's new to the school and I'm having a careers meeting with her on Wednesday.
I really do want some help with my situation as i've been having a rough and confusing time with severe mood swings and suicidal thoughts. Does anyone know how I might bring it up in conversation ?any thoughts or comments really really appreciate them ![]() |

Carrie, you might just tell her that you have been having bad thoughts about life and living and hopefully she will take it from there. You could also write down some notes for her and tell her you are very uncomfortable but that you need to share some information with her. Hope that is helpful. Sending good thoughts your way.

To my knowledge (which is little, so i could be wrong) i don't think that the guidance counsellor will tell your parents anything without your consent unless she thinks you are a danger to yourself and/or others. If you're not a minor, she definitely can't say anything. Guidance counsellors talk to their students in confidence most of the time, as far as i'm aware, but before you say anything to her, why don't you just ask what the confidentiality policy is/will be? If you don't like that policy, then you can ask her to refer you to someone else like a social worker, doctor or therapist.
I'm glad you've decided to bring it up, it's an excellent first step on the way to recovering from all this. If you don't think you can say it out loud, why not write your guidance counsellor a letter and have her read it while you're in the office with her. Just tell her it's the best way you could get your thoughts across and that you're uncomfortable. ![]()

Hi Carrie. I think Phoenix47 and Rebecca have it right. Although policies vary from country to country and here, state to state, I think in most cases your consultation with a school counselor should be protected by dr-patient privelege unless, as Rebecca mentioned they feel you're a danger to yourself or others.
They both suggested writing down your thoughts which I think is a fantastic idea. It's often a lot easier to write down our thoughts instead of having to think about it in the limited time we have available with counselors/therapists. Good luck to you and I hope it gets a little brighter for you. ![]() Chris

I have my old T but I didn't get on well with him at all so I'm somewhat skeptical about talking to him.I would go to the local doctor(who might be the nicest person is ever met) but money isn't something we have to throw around so idk :/
