When things are going bad it is hard not to hate life but things are not going to be bad all the time. Keep hope and look for better times. They will come. Peace - Dennis

There have been times when life has been extremely tough for me. I've come to realize that indeed life CAN be tough sometimes but we can learn from those experiences. I also find, if I just accept that it's going to be rough for a while - this makes it easier and more tolerable. Accepting doesn't mean you give up trying to make things better - it just means you're not going to resist and complain about it. I think most people think they're supposed to be happier and when it doesn't turn out that way, we feel discouraged. Another important point is you can find little bits and pieces of happiness, even when you're going through a rough time. you can exercise this skill by saying to yourself - "even though things are hard right now, I'm still grateful for.............." If you hate your life - think about what things you have the power to change and write them down. If you can't change some things, then again you can practice 'acceptance'. I found comfort in the Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

I understand what you are talking about. I focus on why I am here living this life so I don't hate it as much. For me it is my child. If I didn't have him, I would give up. I do it for him. Hang in there, and look for that speical reason you are here. Everyone has one.

Life, in the long run, is short. If there is something better beyond life, I will get there eventually. If there is nothing better beyond life, I will get there soon enough.
Live in the moment. If you broaden your perspective to an entire lifetime, you might lose today, which is really all you have.

I feel the same way!

I recently heard a quote, "Life really sucks, but the alternative is unacceptable."

I feel a lot of religion in these responses. If you can bring yourself to believe in God, certainly that's the easiest way to believe you have meaning and purpose. In that case, there is something that cares about you when you've lost belief in yourself.

Some of us can't actually believe in God. If you can't believe in or rely on God, you need to talk to someone. I'm an open-minded atheist, and I've got nothing but time and a lot of experience with philosophy and depression. I'll listen, here or via private message, if you think that might help. Good luck.
