Hello, When I am depressed I don't want to talk to my friends, I shut my family off, I am short with my husband. There are times when I am depressed I go shopping and spend without caring about the money and what it should be used for until after it is spent. I really would like somebody who is dealing with some of these issues to let me know how you cope and what can I do to be stronger.

I get the "hide from everyone" times. Something that I do sometimes is take one day that I stay at home and do something I otherwise put off because of my busy life. By limiting it to one day (or some other time frame) I make sure there is an end to it. For some people that won't work, but for me a little indulgence takes care of my "aloneness fix" and gives me a chance to do something I want to do but never have time for.

When I get depressed and get the shopping fever, I allow my spouse to put me on an allowance and I try real hard to stick to it. When I find myself isolating I usually try to journal to figure out what is going on inside. Hope this helps, shaggy

At the moment I'm the opposite, I dont wont to spend on me as I think what's the point I never go anywhere. Yeah I have times where I just go to work and come home as I dont feel like mixing and socialising. It's hard but who said life was gonna be easy.....

I often go into seclusion when I am not feeling up to par myself. I understand the spending issues, I have them as well. I try to not spend the money but sometimes I just can't help it. Maybe try giving your credit cards/debit card/check book to your husband when you feel it coming on. That way you have to go to him when you want to spend money and it may make you think twice about it.

When I isolate I force myself to go to a support meeting. It makes me feel better.

In depression . . . faith in deliverance, in ultimate restoration, is absent. The pain is unrelenting, and what makes the condition intolerable is the...feeling felt as truth...that no remedy will come -- not in a day, an hour, a month, or a minute. . . . It is hopelessness even more than pain that crushes the soul.-William Styron |
